Our Maple Tree

Keeping up with The Maples

Our Weekend

So we have been busy bees (as usual)! Randy is traveling constantly for work for days at a time, I have been working overtime at work and finishing the last touches of our Italy trip (which is in 18 days, by the way, but whose counting!). But we had a great weekend together.

First off, Thursday night (while Randy was traveling) I had a girls’ night at Biltmore Baptist church. It was fun! Got to hang out with some friends, listen to some awesome speakers and eat good food!

Saturday was our 5k at the Asheville Airport. It was unique because we got to run on the runway! It was pretty cool!

Love my “run happy” shirt! It was necessary for the weather Saturday. It was 65 degrees and rainy! They had some planes on showcase for us to look at. This one was my favorite. It kinda reminds me of Tailspin (best show on TV when I was a kid)!

The best part is that we signed up for the race months ago and had every intention of running by ourselves. Well, we get to the race and we run (quiet literally) into some friends from work! It was so cool to see them there and to run together! (Go Eaton!)

Later that night I had a ladies night at my house. It was a Housewives Baking party! The idea was to dress up like your favorite housewife (I Love Lucy comes to mind) and bake some goodies together.

I made a white chicken chili and an autumn salad with apple cider vinaigrette. And for dessert we made s’mores bites. I love how there is chocolate everywhere and wine in the picture above. Gives you an idea how our night went! ๐Ÿ™‚

We had a great time! Definitely want to do this again soon!

Sunday we had a chill day. We were pretty tired from our weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

So that was our weekend in a nutshell! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and have a fantastic week!

30 Days till Italy!!

I can’t believe that our trip to Italy is only a month away! I have been planning this trip for over a year now and it is finally coming together. Planning a two week trip to Italy was more challenging then I expected. Making itineraries for each city, making sure that we see the things that we have to see while we are there and not missing out on the city because we are stuck in museums. Some cathedrals and archaeology sites are only open on certain days and times; working around that has been tough! But I think we have everything set!

We will be flying into Venice and spending 3 days there. Then renting a car and driving down to Siena. We are staying in a B&B right outside of Siena for 5 days. From there we will be driving all over Tuscany – Florence, Siena, Chianti region, etc. Then we will be dropping off our rental car and taking the train to Rome (I was advised to never drive in an Italian city! So we are avoiding that like the plague!). ย We will be staying in Rome for 4 days. Then we will be heading back home!

So our days here lately have looked a lot like this:

I have about 10 books on Italy and I have read. every. single. one.ย Not to mention the city maps that come with each one! I have studied those as well! I got these adorable tiny stickers to put on our maps to locate our hotel, sightseeing sites and restaurants. You can find them here:

On top of planning an itinerary, I have also been planning my wardrobe for the trip. I don’t want to take much because I will be carrying my luggage around sometimes and taking trains, etc. So the plan so far is to just bring one. pair. of. shoes.!!! I can’t believe it myself! It is so hard not to bring all my favorites! But I am going to try! *sigh* Anyways… Moving on!

The shoes I plan on bringing are my brown Ecco Rise Walking Boot. I did a lot of research and these fit the bill. They are comfortable, fashionable and waterproof. So I am planning my outfits around these boots.

Here are some of my ideas:

1. London Fog Trench Coat – Will be needing this in Venice since it probably will be kinda rainy

2. Skinny Jeans – Must have, very versatile

3. Burgundy Cardigan from ModCloth – Very comfortable and warm; plan on wearing this on the plane

4. Plum dress from Athelta – You all know how much I love this dress

5. Mustard Scarf from ModCloth – And you know how much I love this scarf

So there are my outfit ideas so far. Trying to bring pieces that can be interchanged together. Still working on it though! If anyone has any suggestions please let me know!

I can’t wait for this trip! It has been difficult to plan, but I think it will be worth every second! And I am looking forward to sharing all our photos and memories!

Playing Catch Up: Part Two

So another weekend has come and gone. Again… weekends go by way too fast!

Friday night Randy’s team had a potluck dinner at his co-worker’s house. Randy has been working with most of the same people for 5 years now. His team mates are not only his co-workers but our friends. We get together with his team regularly. For the past couple of years we have been going over to the same co-worker’s house and he has been building an amazing tree house for his children for the past two years now. He has now completed this daunting task and I think it has been worth the wait! It is so awesome! Seeing it’s process over the past two years has been fun! And this year we got to enjoy it ourselves!

Along with hanging out in the coolest tree house ever; we also played corn hole (in the dark) and pinball.

Saturday was the Employee Picnic for Randy and I. It was at the Mountain State Fair; which is pretty cool for a work function! Not only did we get into the fair for free but we also got a free lunch and ride tickets! Go Eaton! ๐Ÿ˜‰ It was a beautiful day.

And to add to all this fun, Starbucks’s Pumpkin Spice Latte came out! Woo Hoo! I am one happy girl!

Not only has Starbucks gotten the memo that fall is here, but Kilwins has too! Their pumpkin ice cream is not out yet… ๐Ÿ™ but their Apple Pie Ice Cream is! It is so good! Where has this ice cream been my whole life!? (sorry for the finger in the picture)

The rest of our weekend we spent hanging out on the front porch enjoying the beautiful weather. Even Aryana enjoyed it.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Happy Hump Day Eve! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Playing Catch Up: Part One

So we have been crazy busy for the past week or so. Traveling, working, family time, volunteering, meetings, etc. So lets pick up where I left off.

This past weekend was the Apple Festival here in Hendersonville. It is the biggest festival we have all year long. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see much of it because we had my family reunion to go to. But we did get to stop by for a little bit last Friday. The best part about the Apple Festival (well, in my opinion) are the apple fritters and apple cider slushies! They are delicious! We go to the same place every year, Coston Farm. They make the best slushies! And lucky us, they are about two seconds from our house!

Last week Randy was gone for a week long business trip to San Francisco (Definitely a little jealous! Especially since he got to see my favorite band in concert, Imagine Dragons!) . But anyways, I made him a welcome home dinner last Friday night. On the menu was Stout Beef Stew, Chive Red Mashed Potatoes and Balsamic Mushroom Spinach Salad. It was delicious! I was so glad that it made so much because I got to eat several times! (These recipes came from Celebrate magazine)

The following weekend we headed up to Boone for my family reunion. It was nice to see everyone. We had a potluck lunch by the lake and all the kids went fishing. It was nice to see my sweet little first cousins. They grow up so fast!

That night my family and I had a little fire and made s’mores! You can bet that I was in heaven! My not-so-little-anymore nephew was able to join us; which was a treat!

And of course, Buster was there! He is my parents new child and he knows it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

As usual the weekends are never long enough.ย Overall, it was a wonderful weekend filled with good times, laughs, family time and s’mores! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and week!
