Summer Concert – Check

This past Sunday we were able to check off one of our items on our summer checklist. Great way to start off the summer! We went to the Florida Georgia Line and Nelly concert! It was pretty awesome!

We tailgated before the concert. We enjoyed hotdogs, Fritos, corn hole and a kiddie pool filled with cool water. That pool saved us from the summer heat! (Good thinking Althea!)

Randy was excited to use his car camping gear. He is so adorkable!

We got to use our awesome new cooler for the first time!

And we got to reuse the red baskets from Randy’s birthday party. I’ll use any excuse to use them! I just love them!

Nelly came on first. I was super excited to see him in concert. I remember dancing to his music at all my middle/high school sock-hops (yes, our dances were called sock-hops where I grew up)!

Then, Florida Georgia Line came on. Oh my goodness! The sound was amazing! It was an excellent concert!

We had a wonderful time – good food, good music and great friends!

June Love List

I’m getting this one out on time! Thank goodness! 😉

1. This Coleman Steel belted Cooler is awesome! I love the retro look and it feels so much sturdier than the plastic ones (our plastic one has seen better days)! They come in several different colors, but the green was my favorite. It perfectly matches our 1945 Coleman lantern that was given to us by Randy’s father! It will come in handy this summer for picnics, BBQs and camping.

2. I love, love, love my new Michael Kors rose gold watch! I have abnormally tiny wrists so finding bracelets and watches to fit is a challenge. This watch is the mini style so the face is a bit smaller, which works perfectly for me. So if you have little wrists or want a watch that is a little bit smaller, than get this one!

3. I just got this dress from modcloth.com. It fits like a glove and I love the vintage feel. It is red, white and blue so I will be sporting this dress on July 4th this year!

4. Along with the dress I got this hat. It is even cuter in person! I plan on wearing it with my new dress on July 4th! Now I just need a pair of red sandals… 😉

5. This is Essie Watermelon and I love watermelon colors. This pinkish-red hue is the perfect color for summer (well, in my opinion)!

I have discovered some new recipes this month that I am loving as well!

This kale and wild rice bowl with honey-balsamic vinaigrette is amazing! I made a few alterations, but nothing major. I added more spinach than kale (Randy prefers spinach) and I added walnuts instead of almonds (because I didn’t have any almonds on hand). But it was delicious! I love Iowa Girl Eats, this blog is my favorite place to go to find a wonderful recipe! I will be making this dish very often!

The second recipe that I tried this month was grilled angel food cake from A Farmgirl’s Dabbles. Now I like angel food cake, but grilling it makes it even better! It tastes similar to toasted marshmallow! Warning: Once you tried grilled angel food cake, there is no going back.

I am looking forward to July 4th this year. I cannot wait to share these recipes with my family. What are your plans for July 4th?

Small Family Wedding

Randy’s father got married June 7 and we had a very small, private family wedding.

It was quite sweet. Private weddings always seem to be!

It’s official!

It was the first time I had ever been inside of a federal court house. I guess that is a good thing. 🙂 But it was very pretty. The dome was especially cool.

I loved all the brass… very retro. And Judy’s dress had gold buttons… perfect match! 😉

Happy Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to the greatest daddy in the world, my dad!

Dad, you have been there for every step of my life – all our childhood walks, all our dinner etiquette lessons, prom, high school graduation, college graduation and walking me down the aisle. I am the lady I am today because of you.

You taught me to love the Lord God with all my heart, with all my soul and with all my mind. And to always put God first.

You taught me to be thankful for not only my blessings but for the blessings of those around me.

You taught me that hard work always pays off.

You taught me that beauty fades but intelligence stays.

You taught me that laughing works better than medicine.

You taught me that family is more important than anything in the world.

You have and will forever be my hero, my teacher, my friend, my daddy. I love you daddy!

Summer Bucket List 2014

summerbucketlist2014

Summer is here! Well, mostly. It isn’t June 21st yet, but the weather is suggesting otherwise! I am more of a cool weather girl, but I do love all the activities that summer offers. Camping, cookouts, stargazing, fresh fruits and veggies – the list goes on. So here is my bucket list for this summer!

  • take a trip – we have one trip planned this summer! 🙂
  • go to the lake
  • camp and hike often
  • go to a summer concert – got one in the books, Florida Georgia Line and Nelly June 22! Eek!
  • eat as many s’mores as possible by the fire
  • read “fault in our stars”
  • eat watermelon often
  • refinish Randy’s childhood chest of drawers and dresser
  • stargaze
  • catch fireflies
  • have a water balloon fight
  • go to a drive-in movie (this will be “try something new” – I have never been to a drive-in movie!)
  • go to the farmer’s market in Boone (they have the best one! 😉 )
  • have a BBQ
  • watch fireworks

I hope you plan to take full advantage of all that summer has to offer this year!

What are you doing this summer?

Love List for May

I am apparently struggling with getting these posts out on time! Sorry about that! Better late than never… right? 😉

maylovelist

1. Hello Apparel has the cutest tops and I am loving this one for summer!

2. Yes, more shoes! But in my defense, they were my birthday present! These adorable heels come from modcloth.com. I love the mustard color and the vintage feel.

3. This sunscreen saved my face in the Bahamas. If you have extremely senistive skin, like me, then this stuff is for you! I was able to wear it everyday and my face didn’t break out! Woot woot!

4. This necklace from Ruche is so pretty. Tassle necklaces are the new thing this summer, which I like those too. But this one is fun and romantic all at the same time! 😉 Ruche for the win!

5. I finally tried Chacos and I am a fan! They are comfortable and perfect for all our summer activities. They will be my go-to shoe all summer long!

Summer is right around the corner and I am excited for what it will bring! S’mores by the camp fire, hiking, stargazing, summer trips – oh I can’t wait! What do you have planned for this summer?

Cruise Fun Part 2

The third day was spent at Nassau Bahamas. We went to Atlantis and enjoyed their beautiful beach and aquarium. The beach here was breathtakingly beautiful. The water was a gorgeous blue and the sands super soft.

The only thing about Nassau that I really hate are all the pushy sales people. They try to sell you everything. Touristy junk that no one really wants. They try to sell you water, bracelets, T-shirts, hats, etc, etc. And I figured that once we got on the beach that it would be better but it wasn’t. There were people trying to charge you for everything. The chair you are using, the umbrella you paid for, no you can’t use that chair you paid for this kind of chair. It just goes on and on. So if you ever go to Nassau, be prepared to fight for what you paid for and to say no, a lot.

But besides all the trouble, we were still able to relax on the beach with our coconuts!

IMG_2702

The aquarium was really neat. They had stingrays, sharks and saw fishes. And the best part about the aquarium was that it was about 20 degrees cooler than on the beach. It was nice to take a break from the heat and watch all the fishes swim around you.

I love Randy’s laugh/smile in these photos.

We did rent two jet skis. They were so much fun! It was my first time on a jet ski on the ocean. It was much rougher than I expected. The only time I had ridden a jet ski was on a lake. But it was great! I would definitely love to do it again sometime!

The fourth day was another day at sea. Since we spent 3 days in the sun, I spent the remainder of the trip in the shade. 🙂

Overall, the trip was fantastic. We had a wonderful time with our friends and it was so nice to do absolutely nothing. I feel rejuvenated but I am still in vacation mode. But I won’t be in that mode for long. I have a long summer ahead of me – working full time, taking a class for work and being involved in numerous church activities. But there will be fun times too, it is summertime after all! 😉
