Five Months

Another month with Ada and we couldn’t be happier or more in love with this little baby! It has been an absolute joy watching Ada grow and learn about the world around her. We love watching her look at everything and watching how she reacts when she sees something new, which is pretty much everything! 🙂

Ada is sitting up so well now! There are times when she sits up unassisted and I just jump up and down in delight! It’s funny, when you’re a parent, everything your kid does is amazing! I get so excited with every milestone Ada reaches. At her last appointment she weighed in at 15.5 lbs and measured almost 26 inches long. The doctor was so very pleased at how much weight she had put on, since she had measured a little on the small side last time he saw her. I am pleased too, of course, but it is definitely a workout carrying her around all day! I am getting some definition in one arm, so I guess that is good. I will have to even out my other arm pretty soon though! Haha!

Ada is such a great baby! She is happy and laid back most of the time. Her naps have become more consistent; that is, in her crib. She doesn’t sleep at all when we are out running errands; which means one cranky baby when we get home. But we are working on it. At least she is napping at home well.

Teething is no joke. We have good days and bad days. The bad days keep me up at all hours of the night, making the next day hard for both of us. Then some days, she sleeps through the night, happy all day and takes multiple naps. One thing is for certain, she keeps me on my toes and every day is different!

The biggest milestone this month is Ada is now eating solids! I sometimes can’t believe it! My little baby is already sitting up and eating solids!?! So far we have only tried oatmeal with banana puree. She eats it like a champ! I’m pretty sure Ada is a natural born eater. She breastfeeds, takes a bottle, a spoon and a sippy cup with no problems. She amazes me how good she is at eating! That’s my girl! 😉

She loves studying her hands, fingers and toes. Sometimes when she sits up, she leans over to study her toes. She leans over so far that it makes her spit up. It will even come out of her nose! She just squeezes the milk right out of her. Silly girl! She also loves playing peek-a-boo with her blanket. Randy and Ada play that game every night and Ada just squeals and laughs. It is the cutest thing ever! I just love listening to them play.

She can now do tummy time without screaming, thanks to the tummy time pillow! She doesn’t roll over yet, which in way, I am kind of glad. One less thing to worry about in the night, right? But I am working with her. I lay her on her tummy and help her roll onto her back, then back to her tummy. I guess she will try on her own one day!

Happy Five Months Ada Marie! You are truly loved!

Four & Five Month Favorites

I feel like Ada has grown up so much this past month! She is now teething, eating some solids and is working on sitting up completely on her own now! It is almost like one day she woke up and decided she wanted to eat our food and sit up all by herself.  Where did my little newborn go?!237b3fd5-7aa8-4a2d-9f06-9a37bca9d8cf

Nuby Bibs – With all this teething, Ada is a drooling machine! She goes through bibs and clothes at a phenomenal rate! That is, until I found these bibs. They truly keep Ada’s clothes dry and Ada enjoys the teether on the bottom too! They are kinda hard to find, but you can find them at Walmart and Target (but not Amazon!).

Bamboo Swaddle Blankets – I know I have mentioned these blankets before, but Ada has shown a huge interest in her blankets here lately. She loves holding onto them, rubbing her face with them and chewing on them. I like the bamboo swaddle the best because they are really thin and super soft. I feel comfortable with her napping with them because they are so thin and breathable. Plus, I just love this turquoise color!

Boogie Wipes – These wipes are nice for my teething Ada. Not only is she drooling a lot, she also has had a stuffy and runny nose. I love the way the fresh scent smells and it is easy on her sensitive nose. I know these will come in handy this winter with all these colds going around!  Note: I tear these wipes in half to make the pack last longer! The wipes are so big anyways, half a wipe is more than enough for a little one’s nose!

Baby Oatmeal – I can’t believe Ada is already eating solids! Just… wow! She has just started on Oatmeal and seems to like it pretty good. I do mix in some fruit into the oatmeal, otherwise it is pretty tasteless! Haha! So far, Ada enjoys banana! I’ll be introducing sweet potatoes soon!

Tummy Time Pillow – As I have mentioned before, Ada really hates tummy time. She screams at the top of her lungs, turns beet red and has tears running down her cheeks. It seriously the worst thing ever! For Christmas, she received this pillow and she actually likes it! She lays on it and plays with the crunchy toys. Maybe because she is a little bit older, but we can now do tummy time thanks to this pillow!

Sophie the Giraffe – I know that this toy is everywhere and on everyone’s registry. I don’t know what it is that babies like about this toy, but Ada really loves her Sophie. She loves chewing on this toy and laughs every time I squeak it! Plus, it is adorable!

Pink Poodle – This is Ada’s absolutely most favorite toy! She just squeals in delight, laughs and kicks and wiggles about every time we get it out to play. I guess she finds the rattling and jittering hilarious! Whenever she is upset, this is the toy that I bring out to make her happy again!

Hello 2016! It’s sometimes hard to believe that another year has come and gone. I swear time speeds up when you have a kid! This past year has been one of the best years of my life – Ada is the greatest thing to ever happen! And I really look forward to what this new year will bring to our little family!

Every year, for my new year’s resolution, I like to pick one word to focus on for the year. This year my word is JOY.

Often times I feel like I lose focus on the things that truly matter. In this world, we see everyone around us striving for perfection – having the perfect body, the perfect look, the perfect job, the perfect house, the perfect family, etc, etc. Social media is a wonderful way to watch everyone around you live out these perfect lives. I feel that sometimes I do nothing but compare. Especially now that I am a mother.

Being a mother is fantastic, but it is also the most stressful thing I have ever taken on. I am constantly worrying about Ada. I am reading books, articles, and blogs on how to do this whole motherhood thing because I really don’t want to mess this up. And I sometimes can’t help but compare my way of parenting to others.

“Comparison is a thief of joy.” Isn’t this quote so true? I get so caught up comparing my way of life to others that I become so unhappy; I spend more time worrying than living. In reality, my life is perfect, just the way it is. I love my life and my family. I don’t have everything, I make mistakes, I don’t travel as often as I like, I definitely don’t have the perfect body or the perfect marriage. But what I have is so much better – I have something real.

It is time for me to stop comparing and enjoy my life. To be happy with who I am and what God has blessed me with. I also want to be a good example for my daughter. I don’t want Ada to see me obsessing about my weight or looks or constantly worrying about how everyone perceives me. I want Ada to learn to be happy with herself and to find her true happiness, regardless what others say or do.

So here’s to a new year filled with JOY. 🙂 Happy New Years!
