11 Months

I can’t believe that I am writing an 11 month blog post already!! Just one month away from her first birthday. Seriously, how did this happen?!?! Although, the time has flown by, I really have enjoyed every second of watching Ada grow. This past month she seems to have grown up so much. She is learning something new every day and I just stand back in amazement at how fast she learns.

Even though Ada isn’t mobile yet, I feel like she is getting so close. We have been doing exercises this week to help her build muscles for crawling. More than anything I feel like she just needs confidence because all the strength she needs to crawl is there. She can hold herself in the crawling position for a long time and kind of rocks back and forth. Because she is learning this “new skill”, I believe we have entered another sleep regression this week. She has been getting up every night now for about a week and is awake for 2-3 hours. It seems like all she wants to do is play and eat.

Although, getting up every night could be from teething. She has two bottom teeth and her upper gums are super swollen. I believe she is working on her eye teeth. It wouldn’t surprise me if she had at least one eye tooth before her first birthday. Wouldn’t that make for some cute photos? 😉

Her vocabulary is quite impressive. She has become our little parrot and will try to repeat everything that we say. She can say about 8 words, consistently now: mama, dada, dog, star, bath, no, kitty and duck. And she has just learned to wave and say hey. She definitely has a princess wave. It is this sweet, dainty little wave, which she loves to do in the shopping cart at people in the grocery store. And the people love it! I get stopped at least three times in the grocery store because of this sweet baby, princess waving and smiling. And when the strangers come up to talk to her, she gives them this adorable shy, little smile. Man, she is good! Randy and I are going to be in some serious trouble with this one!

Her eating habits, as always, are excellent. I have noticed that her appetite has decreased a bit. She seems to want a bottle more than solids right now. I assume it is from teething. When she eats, she will hold her cheek, like she has a toothache. Poor thing! Hopefully, this will past quickly. I am looking forward to giving her peanut butter for the first time next month! I can’t wait to see how she reacts to it!

Ada has developed this sweet, silly personality. She loves having our full attention and will scream at you in order to get it. Or do something silly, like make a fun face or clap her hands. She still loves music and claps, sings, and dances every time she hears it. She makes the silliest faces, which I believe she got from her mama. I will have to find some of my baby photos to show you. She loves being silly and making us laugh.

Ada loves being outside and will cry a little when we go back inside. She also associates going outside to seeing our dog. When we start going outside, she will say dog, over and over again. She enjoys riding in the hiking backpack, so we have been taking walks with her as much as we can.

We love you sweet Ada Marie! You are our sunshine and we couldn’t be more in love with you. We love watching you grow up, you get sweeter and sillier everyday. We are so very blessed!

11 months down, first birthday is right around the corner! Can’t wait to share her first birthday party with you all! It is going to be so much fun! Happy Friday!

Mini Meals

We love food in this house, if you haven’t guessed. We love cooking and trying new things. Thankfully, we have been blessed with a little one that loves food too! I have really enjoyed introducing food to Ada. I love researching new meals for her to try and watching her discover new tastes and textures.

A lot of times, Ada just eats what we eat, but I do make some things just for her to enjoy. Here is a round up of her favorites:

Mini Cheese and Asparagus Fritattas: This is super easy and tasty! I diced the asparagus and sautéed them with a salt and pepper. I wisked up 4 eggs and a splash of milk, added a small handful of shredded cheddar cheese and the asparagus. Baked them in a mini muffin pan and done! I froze the frittatas and I reheat them when needed. Ada loves them so much! I have to watch her carefully, otherwise she will stuff her mouth full of them and choke.

Greek Yogurt and Fruit: This is another favorite of Ada’s. Our favorite greek yogurt is Cabot French Vanilla, it seriously tastes like vanilla ice-cream. It is my favorite yogurt and I always join her when I make this for her. 😉 I will sometimes give this to Ada as a dessert at the end of the day. Since she is such a good eater, I don’t mind giving her something sweet.

Healthy Banana Pancakes: This is a simple recipe and it is delicious! They taste similar to banana bread but they are much lighter. We eat them with and without maple syrup. And Ada’s favorite fruit is banana, so she eats them like candy. I make a batch and freeze them to use throughout the week.

Turkey and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches: These have been a favorite for everybody around here. I found some sliced white cheddar cheese and they make the best grill cheese! I add turkey for some protein and a tiny bit of mayo – best grilled cheese ever!

Mini Chicken Pot Pies:  I have actually never made chicken pot pie before, so I wanted something easy. This recipe is so easy and fast, which is necessary in my book when it comes to cooking dinner. The witching hour occurs during dinner prep – ya’ll know what I am talking about, right? Worst time of the day!

Pasta e Fagioli: This is an all time favorite in our house. We all love this stuff! It is easy, so delicious, and healthy. What more can you ask for? I use my mother’s secret recipe, sorry can’t share! But there are lots of recipes out there that I am sure are amazing. I usually make a large batch and pressure can it.

Mexican Sweet Potatoes Skins: This is another favorite that everyone loves. I just add black beans, cheese, and a little bit of salsa to Ada’s potato. She loved this combo when she was eating purees, now she eats it like we do. For ours, we add a little more flavor with cilantro, cumin, onion, hotter salsa, etc.

You can find so many ideas and recipes for babies/toddlers on blogs and Pinterest. This is just some ideas that have worked for us and meals that Ada just loves. What are some of your go to meals for your littles? Happy Friday ya’ll!

Nine & Ten Month Favorites

I am running a bit behind on my monthly favorites; luckily, nine and ten months didn’t differ much. Ada’s favorite toys right now are any toys that play music. She can’t get enough of them! She loves to dance, clap, and sing along! It is seriously, the cutest thing ever! So here is a list of our favorites these past two months:

Blocks – I gave Ada these blocks months ago and she has shown almost no interest in them until now. Now she loves to chew on them, throw them, and she is now learning how to stack them. Although, her favorite thing to do with them is watch mommy build a block tower, which she quickly destroys. #blocktowerdestroyer (And the colors are beautiful!)

Snail – My parents got this toy for Ada, upon my request. I was hoping that a toy that moved would inspire her to chase it – that was hopeful thinking on my part. When she first got this toy, she was absolutely terrified of it. (That was something else I didn’t expect.) But now she really likes it. She likes to watch it roll pass her and she claps along to the music. She also enjoys trying to catch it as it closely rolls pass her. She is very proud of herself when she does catch it. The shell is great too, it can be used as a small stackable tower. Hopefully, she will one day want to chase it down, instead of sitting there waiting for it to come to her!

Sippy Cup – We loved our other sippy cup and it was a great first, but I felt like Ada had to hold her head way back to get water out of it. So I did some research and this sippy cup was the highest rated. It took Ada about two weeks to figure it out and now she can suck down some water! She loves it and we take it everywhere with us – especially since it has been so hot outside here lately. I love the weighted straw. No matter what position the cup is in, Ada can get water out of it. It also seems pretty durable, she has thrown it and dropped it so many times. It doesn’t even have a scratch on it!

Cell Phone – Since she loves playing telephone and is so interested in my cell phone, I decided to get her very own. She loves it and her favorite part is pressing the music button (of course!). I like the lanyard on it, because I can easily attach it to her stroller bar and she is unable to throw it out! This phone has given her hours of entertainment in the car and on the go. #lifesaver

Num Num – These num num sticks have been great at teaching Ada how to feed herself. And they are awesome teethers! Ada really does try to feed herself with these. She can get the food to her mouth, but she hasn’t quite mastered getting the food on the stick. She tries; she can place the stick on top of her food and then waits for me to dip it for her. It won’t be long now before she figures how to do it all by herself. Man, she is growing up so fast! Oh, and letting her use these makes a horrible mess! She loves to throw the num num full of sticky fruit puree! But let her be little, right?

Stand Table – I am actually surprised how much Ada loves this table. Now she can’t stand up on her own, I have to balance her on my leg (great workout for mommy). But she loves pressing the buttons, seeing all the lights, and of course, dancing to the music! I think it is a toy she will still love as she gets older. Especially, when she can stand up on her own!

Teething Wafers – I know these are not particularly nutritional, but Ada loves them and they provide enough entertainment for her while she watches me cook dinner. I place her in her high chair, give her one of these, and she is good to go for a good 45 minutes!

Hope everyone is having a great week! Happy Hump Day!

Our July 4th

I have always enjoyed the 4th of July – sunshine, parades, cookouts, fireworks, and all red, white and blue! And I was even more excited to share this holiday with my daughter! We had a low key weekend at home, mostly because I am pretty sure fireworks and parades would absolutely terrify Ada right now! But next year, I am sure that we will watch fireworks. I can’t wait to see her first reaction to them! Although, I am sure she will be terrified of fireworks then, too! 😉

I am glad that we were able to get a July 4th family photo – thanks to a newly required selfie stick. I think they are terribly hilarious, but they sure do make family photos a lot easier!

We even sported our red, white, and blue for church. I love her little pointed toes in this photo.

For the 4th, we had our friends over for a cookout, complete with red, white, and blue sangria! It was the first time I have ever made sangria and it was pretty darn delicious! You can find the recipe I used here. We had a great time, drinking sangria and watching our little babies play together.

Ada’s first July 4th outfit was so cute! When I saw this onesie, I couldn’t resist. I knew it would make the perfect first July 4th outfit for Ada!

She is definitely our little firecracker!

It is getting a little bit harder to take good picture of her any more, she is such a little wiggle worm!

I hope you had a wonderful 4th filled with fun, friends, and family! Now that July 4th is over, it is officially fall in my mind. Bring on the cooler weather and everything pumpkin!

Life Lately

We have been pretty busy here lately, but busy doing fun things! Just the way I like it! 😉

Randy and I had a great time on our day date a couple of weeks ago. My sweet mother-in-law came up for the weekend to watch our little while we got out of the house and enjoyed Asheville. We stopped by some of our favorite places and enjoyed our favorite foods.

The first stop was Urban Orchard, a cidery that I have been wanting to go to for a long time. They opened when I was pregnant, so I am just now getting a chance to go. And it did not disappoint! They had 8 different hard ciders to chose from that tasted any where from sweet, dry, to spicy. The vanilla habanero was my favorite!

We also got their meat and cheese plate with our flights. The food was either grown or prepared here locally – apples from Hendersonville and the cheese and meat from Hickory Nut Farm. We loved everything we tried! If you are looking for a place to try that isn’t a brewery, try a cidery!

Our next stop on our date was downtown Asheville, where we enjoyed the shopping and our favorite restaurants – French Broad Chocolate Lounge and Bouchon. We had such a great day in Asheville. It was a wonderful break, having fun, just the two of us.

After our date, Randy went on a week long business trip, so I went to visit family for the week. While there I chopped off my hair! I know, right? I cut off about 6-8 inches! It feels so much better. I love my long hair, but it was giving me headaches. It was definitely time for a change! And a huge thank you to my wonderful father for watching Ada while I got my hair cut!

I love this picture of Ada and my mom. So freakin cute! 😉

This past weekend, we went to the Firefly Festival at the Blue Ghose Brewery. Pretty day, food trucks, beer and music – perfect day! We had a blast! Even Ada loved it! She loved listening to the music, she would dance and clap her hands. And she of course, loved all the food. She tried garlic parmesan french fries, toppings from our hotdogs, and strawberry sorbet.

We have had so much fun here lately! But I guess it is time to slow down and get some rest! Hope you all have a restful, beautiful Sunday!
