Halloween 2017

This Halloween was probably the best yet! Ada is at such a fun age right now. I wish she could stay this age forever! I love her running around, asking questions, chatting with us, and understanding what a party signifies. (That’s my girl!) I told her several days in advance that we were having a Halloween party with our friends. She got all excited and started singing, “Happy Birthday!” I am so proud! 😉

We had a simple party with good eats, pumpkin painting with glow-in-the-dark paint, and glow sticks. I think my favorite part were the glow stick necklaces & bracelets. The kids loved them, of course, but watching the adults enjoy them too was even better! I had a great time decorating for Halloween this year, which was pretty much the first for me. Target had so many cute things that it was easy and fun.

After the party, Randy found a video of a boozy caramel apple bar. Sounds like it could be fun! I guess we will just have to have another party soon! 😉

Ada had her very first s’more, but I am not sure she liked it. Blasphemy I know… no way she can be my kid. Just kidding! I think she didn’t like the sticky marshmallow all over her face. She is such a little princess and I love it.

On Halloween night, we took Ada trick or treating for the first time. We stopped by a local petting zoo, where we trick or treated and got to pet animals. Ada, naturally, fell in love with this baby bunny. But who am I kidding? We all fell in love with this little baby bunny! It was all we could do to give the bunny back. She screamed bloody murder until we gave her, her very first sucker. After that, the bunny was old news. So now Ada has been asking for candy ever since. After the zoo, we took her downtown to go trick or treating at all the shops.

Celebrating Halloween with Ada has been so much fun! Seeing the joy and excitement in her eyes is, seriously, the greatest thing of all time. I loved dressing all of us up as her favorite characters from Monsters, Inc. I hope we can continue to do family costumes, but time will tell. Until then, I am going to soak it all in – the family costumes, the magic, holding her hand from door to door, and giving her candy for dinner. I hope you all had a great Halloween! Happy November, ya’ll!

Pine Nuts & Noses

Ada has always been a little different from other children her age, in a good way, of course. For instance, she has never been one to put things in her mouth or place things in funny places. I have never needed to worry about Ada playing with little toys or things. But that all changed a few nights ago.

Randy was away for business so it was just the two of us. Ada was sitting in her highchair eating a snack while I was chopping vegetables for our dinner. She was snacking on some pine nuts, which she has had dozens of times before. I was watching her occasionally while I was cooking and during one of my checks, Ada had this panic look in her eyes and I saw a pine nut in her nose. As soon as I saw what was happening, I dropped everything and ran to her to pull out the pine nut. But as soon as I got to her, she decided to sniff. And sniff hard. That pine nut went shooting up her nose.

I yanked her from her highchair and was trying to explain to Ada to blow her nose. She obviously had no idea what I was getting her to do because she just kept sniffing. Pulling that pine nut even further into her nose. I tried laying her down on the bed and using a flashlight to see where the pine nut ended up. I couldn’t see it anywhere. So I tried calling Randy, my parents, and my friend to figure out what in the world I should do to get the pine nut out. In my panic state, I decided to take her in to the ER.

Now as a back story, it didn’t help that I just watched a video on FB about a little girl who stuffed something up her nose. The doctor was too scared to try to pull it out because he thought he would just push it up further. Causing them to operate to get the object out of her sinuses. So this video was fore front in my brain… I just knew that the pine nut was too high for anyone to pull out.

On my way to the ER, I heard Ada sneeze a few times but I didn’t stop to check the pine nut, I just kept driving. My friend advised me to call the pediatrician, which was good advice. So glad someone was thinking logically. By the time I got the pediatrician on the phone, I was sitting in the parking lot at the ER. The pediatrician told me to just let it go and to not worry about it. The pine nut will eventually slide through her sinuses, down her throat, and into her belly. I was shocked that is what she suggested. She wanted me to sleep knowing that my daughter had a pine nut her nose! It was going to be a long night.

So I went back home. When we got home and I started getting Ada out of her carseat, I noticed that a pine nut was sitting on her chest. She apparently sneezed it out before we even got to the ER. *Cue huge sigh of relief* I am so relieved that we avoided our first ER visit, at least for now! 😉

At this time, my parents returned my call and I explained to them what just happened. They thought it was hilarious and my dad told me that Ada is just like her great grandfather. My dad told me the story of my grandfather placing a dry pinto bean up his nose. And as you know, as dry beans get wet they expand. So the bean expanded and got stuck. They made a tool to help get out the bean and created a funny poem to go along with this story.

“Little Johnny Greene

Up his nose he stuck a bean

Who got it out?

Little Eddie Stout.”

Now if only I could figure out a poem for Ada’s little pine nut incident. Anyways, I am just glad that everything turned out just fine and that I can laugh about it now. Moral of the story… no more pine nuts.

Halloween Fun

Since it is Halloween month, I have been having so much fun finding Halloween activities for Ada to do. After the pumpkin painting party, she has been talking non-stop about it. (Which makes me feel like mom of year over here!) So I thought I would print out some pumpkins for her to decorate and send to the grandparents.

I ordered more Crayola Kid’s Washable Paint, but this time I got glitter paint. I love the vivid colors and the glitter just makes it so fun. Ada calls it shiny paint then proceeds to sing, “Cause I’m shiny!” (Moana song for those of you who do not know).

After painting, we had a picnic lunch that was pumpkin themed. I cut her PB&J sandwich with a mini pumpkin cookie cutter, served carrots and ranch in a pumpkin bowl and cheez-its (because they are orange and delicious and addicting — oh, why did I buy cheez-its?!). Oh and her orange drink is actually orange Pedialyte (she has been under the weather for the past couple of days).

And to top it all off, an adorable kitty outfit! OldNavy has done it again with their Boo-tique this year. I love all the black cats and Ada’s second favorite animal is a kitty. So she will be sporting this outfit all month long and then some. 😉

I hope you are all having as much fun as we are! And that you are celebrating Halloween all month long! 😉

Birthday Party Details

My favorite thing to read on blogs are all the parties! I love to know how people came up with their ideas and where they found everything. So as promised, I put together all the details and sources for Ada’s second birthday party.

I guess what helped me put the party together, after figuring out the theme, was the invitation. I searched for several weeks to find the perfect invitation and all my research paid off. This invitation was absolutely perfect! I found the invite at SprinklesandLaceCo. She has the cutest invitations ever and so many of them have these adorable little bunnies. I am seriously thinking about having a fall party just so I can use this cute bunny/fall invite.

From there, I started hunting down bunnies and ice cream theme decorations. I really lucked out finding decorations this year. Even though I had to shop at several different stores, I was lucky to find what I wanted. For instance, the photo booth backdrop, is a sprinkle plastic tablecloth that I found at Hobby Lobby. The sprinkle ice cream cups I found two days before the party in Target’s $1 section. See what I mean? Luck. 😉

I ordered the Happy Birthday banner from my favorite store, Hooray Everyday. Now I will have a birthday banner to use every year. During my research, I stumbled upon a new store, Pearl & Jane, and I am in love with her garlands! She made me two bunny garlands that are so sweet! I definitely plan to use these two garlands in Ada’s room and playroom.

The tassel & ice cream garland is something that I made. I found the ice cream printouts here. I loved this garland so much, that I actually kept it just in case we have another ice cream party (I usually throw tassel garlands away because they are so hard to store!). All the balloons came from StudioPrep. The ice cream party balloons perfectly matched the party and Ada just loved them! We played with them for a week after the party.

The bunny bubbles came from ShopSweetLulu and the ice cream bubbles came from Hobby Lobby.

During all this time trying to find everything for Ada’s party, I found a book collection called Belle & Boo. It is about a little girl, named Belle and her best friend, a bunny named Boo. I love the books and illustrations. They remind me so much of my sweet little girl and all her adventures with her hop-hop. On the website they offer many free printables, including cupcake wrappers and coloring pages. The Belle & Boo collection inspired the cake; which came from Perfectly Pretty Sweets. They make the greatest cake and buttercream frosting ever!

I used the bunny on the cupcake wrappers and made all the food tents/labels. I kept all these too because they turned out to be so adorable! I really hope we have another ice cream party sometime!

Ada’s dress came from Gap and is something that I have been holding onto for months! I love the colors and I am hoping that she can wear it again on our beach trip later this year. Keeping my fingers crossed for that one, she is growing like a weed! Ada’s necklace came from Claire’s and was a last minute find as well. Her hair bows came from ZozuBaby, but she is sold out. You can find a similar bow here. And my dress is from Anthro.

I loved this party theme, not only because it was so much fun to plan but because it was filled with all the things that Ada loves. It was so great to have a whole day (or a week) to celebrate my sweet girl. We are so incredibly blessed!

Now who wants to throw an ice cream party so we can use all these use decorations again? 😉 Happy Hump Day ya’ll!

Ada’s 2nd Birthday Party

For the past couple of months, I have been planning and pinning ideas for Ada’s birthday party. At first, I thought Tea for Two would be so much fun. Then I got to thinking about the logistics of giving a tea party to several two year olds and promptly changed my mind. I started thinking about the things Ada loves most and that is how I came up with her party theme. So the Bunny Ice Cream party was born! I had so much fun putting this party together and I really hope that I can do one just like it again someday. And what better way to send off summer than with an ice cream party, am I right? 😉

The whole day was filled with all the things Ada loves – bunnies, ice cream, birthday cake, coloring, bubbles, and all her friends & family. Ada had an absolute blast and loved being the center of attention. So much so, that she gave us all a wonderful dance to her favorite song, “Animals”, by Maroon 5. I just love this silly girl of mine!

We had such a wonderful time hanging out with our friends & family, drinking spiked ice cream floats and taking pictures at the photo booth.

And of course, I think Ada’s favorite part of the day was eating birthday cake.

Well, I think it was all the kid’s most favorite part of the day. 😉

Opening presents with Ada this year was way better than last year! She got right into tearing up the paper and was so excited for all her new toys. Her enthusiasm was the sweetest thing ever!

The day was just so perfectly sweet! Having all our friends & family there to celebrate our darling girl was the sweetest and it meant the world to us. We are so incredibly blessed with loving friends & family. Thank you to all who came and making our little girl’s day so special.

Happy 2nd Birthday, my darling Ada Marie! You bring so much happiness and love to our family and we are so blessed to call you ours. We love you!

P.S. I plan on writing a post regarding all my party sources. Just stay tuned for all the party details! 😉

Ada Turns Two

My sweet baby girl turned two this week. Where did the time go? It seems like yesterday we were bringing her home for the first time. I have been looking through pictures of her and can’t believe how much she has grown & changed. I wanted to picked a few of my favorites to share (which was hard to do because I have so many favorites!).

Ada is full of personality – don’t let her pictures fool you. It’s all we can do to get her to smile for the camera and she always looks so melancholy. But in reality she is a firecracker. She can be all the way happy one moment and then the next, all the way mad. She certainly keeps us on our toes all the time. She is also the sweetest, silliest girls ever. She can be in her own little world and then she will hear a song that she likes and will drop everything to dance to it. And poor thing, has my dance moves. 😉 She loves to snuggle and will find any excuse for us to just hold her. She has already learned that if she snuggles with us she can pretty much get whatever she wants. Clever girl. She LOVES her stuffed bunnies – which she calls, Hop-Hops. She never goes anywhere without her Hop-Hop. They have so many wonderful adventures together. She also loves her sweets. Everyday she asks either for cake, popsicles, or ice cream.

She has grown and changed so much this past year; and I am so very proud of all her accomplishments. She talks nonstop and will break out in song often. Most of the time at the top of her lungs. She can count to 5, point out many letters from the alphabet, she knows all her shapes & colors, and can run circles around me all day long.

Ada brings so much joy and love to our lives. She certainly is our little sunshine and completes us so perfectly. We are all so excited to celebrate her with family & friends next weekend! Happy birthday Ada Marie, we love you more than you could ever know.

Summer Adventures

This summer has been such a magical time for us. Watching Ada explore the world around her and discovering new things has been so fun to witness. Even though Ada took her sweet time to start walking, I am glad that it happened when it did. Ada has been encouraged to move and try new things this summer and it has made me so proud of her. She is still my little lamb, but I have seen her grow, learn, and show courage everyday this summer. It has been an absolute marvel to watch.

With all these extremely humid, hot days, we have been living in the water. This past week, I took Ada to the splash pad for the first time. She was a little afraid of it at first, but seemed to really enjoy it after a little while.

So funny story – on my way to the splash pad I realized that I packed everything but Ada’s swim suit. On the drive, I debated turning around to go back home to retrieve her swim suit (after I had driven about halfway) or just letting her run around in her swim diapers. After much consideration, I decided that I didn’t want to go all the way back home and that I didn’t want to get judged 6 ways to Sunday for letting my little girl run around without a swim suit. So I stopped at Target and picked up the last suit in a size 2T they had. Luckily, it was adorable and Ada was a hit running around in it. Everyone kept remarking how cute she was and how adorable her suit was. And I believe Ada loved her new suit as well, because all she did all day long was play with the tutu. Mom for the win…

Our days are full with water activities and our afternoons are full of hiding from the summer thunder storms. We have been building forts, playing in puddles (when it isn’t storming, of course) & having dance parties in the kitchen.

As I mentioned before, eating popsicles has been a staple here at the house – so has eating ice cream. Our favorite activity to do as a family this summer has been going to Kilwins, getting ice cream cones & walking around downtown. Have you seen a toddler devour an ice cream cone? It is the cutest, stickiest mess ever!

And this picture is on overload of cuteness – the pigtails, the bloomers, the cheeks – she just melts me!

I hope your summer has been as magical as ours! Long live summer – until fall gets here, because let’s be real here – fall is simply the best! 😉

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday ya’ll! Thankfully, this week was a short one; plus it helped that we have been having so much fun! The week just flew by and now it is already Friday! And for the cherry on top or should I say, for the sprinkles on top – it’s National Donut Day! Win, win! We, of course, celebrated by enjoying our free donuts from Krispie Kreme.

I just taught Ada how to say, “Cheese!” for a picture and it is pretty much the cutest thing ever. Just see for yourself. 😉

It has been a while since I have written a Friday Favorites, which is sad because these are my favorite posts to read from other bloggers. So I decided to bring them back! 😉

These past few weeks, Randy and I have been working on several projects around the house. First, being our media room, now family room/playroom. We have been playing with layouts and upgrading our entertainment center (entertainment centers are ridiculously expensive, btw!). But the most exciting part, is decorating Ada’s play area!

I picked out these prints which displays my all time favorite quote from my all time favorite children’s author, Roald Dahl (can you tell that I am super excited about these prints?). The full quote goes, “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely of places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”  I picked out these gold frames and to add a little flair I paired this wooly ball garland to go with it. I can’t wait till we pull it all together and share the final results with you all!

I have been living in this jersey swing dress from Old Navy. It is so soft and comfortable – paired with sneakers + a baseball cap and you have the perfect mom uniform! 😉 And for $10 – I mean, come on! I have been debating on getting more colors. The bright pink one is adorable!

I just stumbled upon a store that sells hats for women – the most perfect store for me ever, right? My favorites have been this mustard hat and this blush pink baseball cap. Baseball caps tend to fit strange on me – they are either too tall and the hat overlaps my ears or they are too wide and stick out funny on the sides. But this baseball cap fits like a dream! I hope to buy one in every color over the next few months because I love them so much! Plus, their beanies come in colors that I have been hunting for, for a while now. I just love this store!

June & January makes some of my favorite clothes for Ada, but their varsity shorts and peplum tops are the cutest ever! I love their shorts! They fit so much better than other brands I have tried for Ada. Other shorts stuck out real wide on Ada and I thought they looked weird. But these shorts fit tighter and look adorable! Plus, they are soft, stretchy, and comfortable. Win, win, and win! 😉

It is difficult to find shoes that fit on Ada’s tiny feet. Her feet are really narrow and brands like Stride Ride or shoes from Target are huge on her. I have only found two brands that work for Ada – Nike and Livie & Luca. And since, Ada is a new walker, I didn’t think regular sandals would be a good option for her this summer. Luckily, Nike offers these water shoes and they are the greatest sandal & water shoe. Ada loves them and wears them every day! I just hope they continue to make them, because they were kind of hard to find. They are definitely a shoe that I will buy each summer, if I can!

Now that warm days are here in full swing, popsicles have been the snack of choice for everyone here in the Maples’ house. The next recipe that I want to try are these strawberry watermelon popsicles… um, yes please!

I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful spring weather as much as we have! Have a wonderful weekend ya’ll!

Mother’s Day Photoshoot

I can’t believe that I am getting ready to celebrate my second Mother’s Day. First, I still sometimes struggle with the idea that I am a mom and second, I can’t believe that my baby is almost two! The years have flown by, especially this year! So for Mother’s Day this year, I wanted a photoshoot with Ada. I know we do a lot of these, but I have been super emotional with Ada’s second birthday approaching. I just can’t believe that Ada will be two in just few short months! Where did my sweet, chubby baby go?! But I am grateful that I have had many photo sessions with Ada. I love looking back on them and remembering what Ada was like at that time.

Special thanks to my sweet, patient husband for taking the time to take these photos. We are the luckiest girls in the world!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

18 Month Snapshot

Today my sweet, little baby turns 1.5 years old! And what better way to celebrate, then with donuts for breakfast!?

mmm… which one?

We went to a local restaurant called, Hendough. They serve homemade donuts and fried chicken – yeah, it is awesome! Ada loved her chocolate donut and couldn’t stuff it in her mouth fast enough!

And about two seconds after this photo was taken, Ada decided to grab the basket of donuts and fling them around. Resulting in a chocolate donut and coffee fiasco. The hot coffee went everywhere, including my white jeans. Note to future self: Never, ever, ever wear white around a toddler. Besides feeling like a hot mess (see what I did there? haha!), we had a great birthday breakfast.

Age: 18 months

Stats: Last time we were at the doctor, Ada was in the 95th percentile in height and weighed 22lbs. She is one tall little girl. So tall, that I have had to start buying 2T clothing for the length – even though the 2T shirts hang off her shoulders.

Favorite Foods: pasta, bread, cheese, crackers, apples, black beans, sweet potatoes – just to name a few. This girl has always enjoyed food and will pretty much eat what ever I put in front of her.

Favorite Words: hi, belly button (bee-boo), no, yes, snack (nack), beep-beep, hop-hop (what she calls her lovie), and bath (ba-ba) – Her vocab has always been extensive. She probably can say about 30 words consistently and can repeat everything that we say. So we have to make sure that we watch our words around her! 😉

Favorite Activities: Ada has been a bit motor delayed. She isn’t walking on her own yet, but she is cruising along the furniture and is getting stronger and better everyday. She can walk around while I hold her hands and she loves to climb the stairs. Her favorite toy right now is the Little Tike car. She loves to be pushed around in it outside in our driveway; all the while screaming, “Beep! Beep!” It is pretty darn cute and I can’t help but smile whenever she does this. Ada loves to color and her favorite is the, “My First Crayola Mess-Free Marker & Paper.” I love that I can leave her alone with this and not worry about my walls getting marked up. One of her favorite activities, is playing tea. She has a tea set for the bath that she just loves to play with. She also loves to wrestle and roll around on the floor with her daddy. They do it every night and I just love hearing them both laugh and Ada squealing in delight!

Least Favorite Activities: She hates getting her diaper or clothes changed. She will scream at me just about every time. Now when she needs a diaper change, Randy and I will go back & forth on whose turn it is to enjoy the scream fest. Ada has started tantrums, which are just wonderful…. She gets so mad when we have to end a fun activity to go eat or take a nap. The worst is when I won’t let her scoot around on the floor in public (like the grocery store). I know we are both getting frustrated that she can’t walk on her own yet. I am hoping that this will give her even more incentive to learn to walk on her own even faster!

Signature Moves: Blowing kisses and saying muah, waving hello and goodbye to everyone, dancing when she hears music, and singing when we sing a song she “knows” together (she usually just says, La la la!), and making silly faces to make us laugh.

This has been such a great age, but also pretty trying. I am hoping that once she starts walking on her own, things will be just a little bit better. But who am I kidding? When she starts walking, I’ll just be exhausted from chasing her all day! 😉 I do think when she starts walking on her own, it will help with some things – like, the tantrums in the grocery store! But I love being a mom and I am so incredibly grateful that I get to spend everyday with this silly, sweet girl of mine. Happy 18th month birthday Ada Marie! You are so loved!
