Birthday Party Details

My favorite thing to read on blogs are all the parties! I love to know how people came up with their ideas and where they found everything. So as promised, I put together all the details and sources for Ada’s second birthday party.

I guess what helped me put the party together, after figuring out the theme, was the invitation. I searched for several weeks to find the perfect invitation and all my research paid off. This invitation was absolutely perfect! I found the invite at SprinklesandLaceCo. She has the cutest invitations ever and so many of them have these adorable little bunnies. I am seriously thinking about having a fall party just so I can use this cute bunny/fall invite.

From there, I started hunting down bunnies and ice cream theme decorations. I really lucked out finding decorations this year. Even though I had to shop at several different stores, I was lucky to find what I wanted. For instance, the photo booth backdrop, is a sprinkle plastic tablecloth that I found at Hobby Lobby. The sprinkle ice cream cups I found two days before the party in Target’s $1 section. See what I mean? Luck. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ordered the Happy Birthday banner from my favorite store, Hooray Everyday. Now I will have a birthday banner to use every year. During my research, I stumbled upon a new store, Pearl & Jane, and I am in love with her garlands! She made me two bunny garlands that are so sweet! I definitely plan to use these two garlands in Ada’s room and playroom.

The tassel & ice cream garland is something that I made. I found the ice cream printouts here. I loved this garland so much, that I actually kept it just in case we have another ice cream party (I usually throw tassel garlands away because they are so hard to store!). All the balloons came from StudioPrep. The ice cream party balloons perfectly matched the party and Ada just loved them! We played with them for a week after the party.

The bunny bubbles came from ShopSweetLulu and the ice cream bubbles came from Hobby Lobby.

During all this time trying to find everything for Ada’s party, I found a book collection called Belle & Boo. It is about a little girl, named Belle and her best friend, a bunny named Boo. I love the books and illustrations. They remind me so much of my sweet little girl and all her adventures with her hop-hop. On the website they offer many free printables, including cupcake wrappers and coloring pages. The Belle & Boo collection inspired the cake; which came from Perfectly Pretty Sweets. They make the greatest cake and buttercream frosting ever!

I used the bunny on the cupcake wrappers and made all the food tents/labels. I kept all these too because they turned out to be so adorable! I really hope we have another ice cream party sometime!

Ada’s dress came from Gap and is something that I have been holding onto for months! I love the colors and I am hoping that she can wear it again on our beach trip later this year. Keeping my fingers crossed for that one, she is growing like a weed! Ada’s necklace came from Claire’s and was a last minute find as well. Her hair bows came from ZozuBaby, but she is sold out. You can find a similar bow here. And my dress is from Anthro.

I loved this party theme, not only because it was so much fun to plan but because it was filled with all the things that Ada loves. It was so great to have a whole day (or a week) to celebrate my sweet girl. We are so incredibly blessed!

Now who wants to throw an ice cream party so we can use all these use decorations again? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Happy Hump Day ya’ll!

Ada’s 2nd Birthday Party

For the past couple of months, I have been planning and pinning ideas for Ada’s birthday party. At first, I thought Tea for Two would be so much fun. Then I got to thinking about the logistics of giving a tea party to several two year olds and promptly changed my mind. I started thinking about the things Ada loves most and that is how I came up with her party theme. So the Bunny Ice Cream party was born! I had so much fun putting this party together and I really hope that I can do one just like it again someday. And what better way to send off summer than with an ice cream party, am I right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

The whole day was filled with all the things Ada loves – bunnies, ice cream, birthday cake, coloring, bubbles, and all her friends & family. Ada had an absolute blast and loved being the center of attention. So much so, that she gave us all a wonderful dance to her favorite song, “Animals”, by Maroon 5. I just love this silly girl of mine!

We had such a wonderful time hanging out with our friends & family, drinking spiked ice cream floats and taking pictures at the photo booth.

And of course, I think Ada’s favorite part of the day was eating birthday cake.

Well, I think it was all the kid’s most favorite part of the day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Opening presents with Ada this year was way better than last year! She got right into tearing up the paper and was so excited for all her new toys. Her enthusiasm was the sweetest thing ever!

The day was just so perfectly sweet! Having all our friends & family there to celebrate our darling girl was the sweetest and it meant the world to us. We are so incredibly blessed with loving friends & family. Thank you to all who came and making our little girl’s day so special.

Happy 2nd Birthday, my darling Ada Marie! You bring so much happiness and love to our family and we are so blessed to call you ours. We love you!

P.S. I plan on writing a post regarding all my party sources. Just stay tuned for all the party details! ๐Ÿ˜‰ย

Ada Turns Two

My sweet baby girl turned two this week. Where did the time go? It seems like yesterday we were bringing her home for the first time. I have been looking through pictures of her and can’t believe how much she has grown & changed. I wanted to picked a few of my favorites to share (which was hard to do because I have so many favorites!).

Ada is full of personality – don’t let her pictures fool you. It’s all we can do to get her to smile for the camera and she always looks so melancholy. But in reality she is a firecracker. She can be all the way happy one moment and then the next, all the way mad. She certainly keeps us on our toes all the time. She is also the sweetest, silliest girls ever. She can be in her own little world and then she will hear a song that she likes and will drop everything to dance to it. And poor thing, has my dance moves. ๐Ÿ˜‰ She loves to snuggle and will find any excuse for us to just hold her. She has already learned that if she snuggles with us she can pretty much get whatever she wants. Clever girl. She LOVES her stuffed bunnies – which she calls, Hop-Hops. She never goes anywhere without her Hop-Hop. They have so many wonderful adventures together. She also loves her sweets. Everyday she asks either for cake, popsicles, or ice cream.

She has grown and changed so much this past year; and I am so very proud of all her accomplishments. She talks nonstop and will break out in song often. Most of the time at the top of her lungs. She can count to 5, point out many letters from the alphabet, she knows all her shapes & colors, and can run circles around me all day long.

Ada brings so much joy and love to our lives. She certainly is our little sunshine and completes us so perfectly. We are all so excited to celebrate her with family & friends next weekend! Happy birthday Ada Marie, we love you more than you could ever know.

Thoughts on 30-Something

This past weekend I turned 31, which is crazy to me, because I feel like I justย posted our 30th birthday celebration not that long ago. How can another year already come and gone?! I swear life moves more quickly the older you get. But I am now officially in my thirties… not just 30 but in my thirties! Even though I struggle with the idea that I am older and that I’m a somewhat functioning adult – oh, and a mom; I still feel eternally grateful that I am getting older. Getting older is a privilege. I am grateful to have spent another year on this earth and that I got to spend it with my family and friends.

People say that the 20s are the best years. My 20s were great – they were years of self-discoveries, making mistakes, changing my mind, and exploring the world around me. In those years, I accomplished what others said I couldn’t – getting a degree in physics. In college, I met my best friends and my soulmate. I got married in my 20s, we bought our first house in our 20s, and we traveled to Italy and had many other great adventures. Yeah, my 20s were great. But, I feel like I am living the best years of my life now.

Since I have come into my 30s, I have discovered that I have changed, in a good way.

  • I am more self-confident, than I ever was in my early 20s. My self image has changed. Since having a baby, my body isn’t the same and you know what? I am perfectly ok with that. My body has done some amazing things these past few years and I am proud of it. Now I am more concerned of becoming an example for Ada. I want her to have a role model that can show her how to be confident in her own skin. To know that true beauty is within.
  • I feel more settled in my sense of style and who I am. I always felt like a late bloomer in this area. Before I got married, I worn nothing but jeans and t-shirts. But now I know who I am and what I like, regardless of popular opinion.
  • My health has become an invaluable asset. I have always been health conscious, but now that I’m getting older and starting to see some “age” on my face, I am taking even better care of myself. Like, washing my face every single night (yeah, I was one of those that didn’t do that!). And as always, eating healthy (well, as best as I can – I do love me some ice cream) and getting at least some physical activity everyday (having a toddler helps with that). You only have one body and I want to do the best I can to treat it right. ๐Ÿ˜‰
  • And last but certainly not least, I became a mom when I was 29 (great way to end my 20s, uh?). Having Ada in our lives has been the greatest blessing of all. It is because of her, that I am now living the best years of my life.

So there you have it, 30s are so much better than your 20s! ๐Ÿ˜‰

This weekend my family came up and went with me to the “Tour de Fat” at the New Belgium brewery. And whole reason we went was to see Third Eye Blind; my favorite band in high school. It was a fantastic concert and I felt young again! ๐Ÿ˜‰ We had a blast eating food truck food, drinking beer, and singing at the top of our lungs to songs I blasted through my car stereo in my high school parking lot. It was a great night!

Thank you all for my birthday wishes and to those to celebrated with me. And a special thanks to my parents for watching over my little girl. 30 was a great year and I am looking forward to this year. Heres to living in your thirties and making them the best years of our lives!

18 Month Snapshot

Today my sweet, little baby turns 1.5 years old! And what better way to celebrate, then with donuts for breakfast!?

mmm… which one?

We went to a local restaurant called, Hendough. They serve homemade donuts and fried chicken – yeah, it is awesome! Ada loved her chocolate donut and couldn’t stuff it in her mouth fast enough!

And about two seconds after this photo was taken, Ada decided to grab the basket of donuts and fling them around. Resulting in a chocolate donut and coffee fiasco. The hot coffee went everywhere, including my white jeans. Note to future self: Never, ever, ever wear white around a toddler. Besides feeling like a hot mess (see what I did there? haha!), we had a great birthday breakfast.

Age: 18 months

Stats: Last time we were at the doctor, Ada was in the 95th percentile in height and weighed 22lbs. She is one tall little girl. So tall, that I have had to start buying 2T clothing for the length – even though the 2T shirts hang off her shoulders.

Favorite Foods: pasta, bread, cheese, crackers, apples, black beans, sweet potatoes – just to name a few. This girl has always enjoyed food and will pretty much eat what ever I put in front of her.

Favorite Words: hi, belly button (bee-boo), no, yes, snack (nack), beep-beep, hop-hop (what she calls her lovie), and bath (ba-ba) – Her vocab has always been extensive. She probably can say about 30 words consistently and can repeat everything that we say. So we have to make sure that we watch our words around her! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Favorite Activities: Ada has been a bit motor delayed. She isn’t walking on her own yet, but she is cruising along the furniture and is getting stronger and better everyday. She can walk around while I hold her hands and she loves to climb the stairs. Her favorite toy right now is the Little Tike car. She loves to be pushed around in it outside in our driveway; all the while screaming, “Beep! Beep!” It is pretty darn cute and I can’t help but smile whenever she does this. Ada loves to color and her favorite is the, “My First Crayola Mess-Free Marker & Paper.” I love that I can leave her alone with this and not worry about my walls getting marked up. One of her favorite activities, is playing tea. She has a tea set for the bath that she just loves to play with. She also loves to wrestle and roll around on the floor with her daddy. They do it every night and I just love hearing them both laugh and Ada squealing in delight!

Least Favorite Activities: She hates getting her diaper or clothes changed. She will scream at me just about every time. Now when she needs a diaper change, Randy and I will go back & forth on whose turn it is to enjoy the scream fest. Ada has started tantrums, which are just wonderful…. She gets so mad when we have to end a fun activity to go eat or take a nap. The worst is when I won’tย let her scoot around on the floor in public (like the grocery store). I know we are both getting frustrated that she can’t walk on her own yet. I am hoping that this will give her even more incentive to learn to walk on her own even faster!

Signature Moves: Blowing kisses and saying muah, waving hello and goodbye to everyone, dancing when she hears music, and singing when we sing a song she “knows” together (she usually just says, La la la!), and making silly faces to make us laugh.

This has been such a great age, but also pretty trying. I am hoping that once she starts walking on her own, things will be just a little bit better. But who am I kidding? When she starts walking, I’ll just be exhausted from chasing her all day! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I do think when she starts walking on her own, it will help with some things – like, the tantrums in the grocery store! But I love being a mom and I am so incredibly grateful that I get to spend everyday with this silly, sweet girl of mine. Happy 18th month birthday Ada Marie! You are so loved!

Party Details

Ada's First Birthday Party

I had so much fun planning Ada’s first birthday and I really love how everything came together. One of theย best things about the blogging world, is learning and sharing from each other. I love reading posts about parties and how it all came together. So here is my contribution regarding my daughter’s first birthday party.

Since the inspiration came from Ada’s yellow bow, I will start with our outfits!

Ada’s bow is from Free Babes Homemade and her romper is handmade from Theย Cranky Peach. I love the colors and pattern of her romper. It matched the colors of her partyย so well! My dress is from ModCloth – you wouldn’t believe how difficult it was to find a dress that was pink and yellow. Who knew!?!

The retro “You Are My Sunshine” prints came from KZukowski. She was great to work with and she even tweaked the colors a little to better match the party. I originally found these prints at thelandofnod.com, but they wanted $40 a piece for them! That was a bit too much! KZukowski was cheaper and I got them custom! They will be perfect for Ada’s nursery/playroom now that the party is over.

The “Ada is One” print is from INVITEDbyAudriana. I used her entire, “You Are My Sunshine”, party pack – it came with invitations, food tents, Ada is One print, and the party favor tags.

The “You Are My Sunshine” banner and woolie ball banner came from Hooray Everyday. Hana was great to work with and she made a custom banner with my party colors. I love how they turned out and plan on using them again in Ada’s nursery/playroom!

I made the monthly milestone banner with baker’s twine and mini clothespins. I love it paired with the woolie ball banner! It adds a beautiful pop of color.

All the brunch food I made was really good! Here are the recipes I used: sausage & cheese quiche, mini chicken & waffles, and ham & cheese pinwheels.

The cakes were made by a friend of ours from Perfectly Pretty Sweets.ย Not only were the cakes gorgeous, but they tasted amazing! I was so glad to have leftover cake, I got to enjoy it all by myself for several days! (I am going to have to start running now!) If you need a baker in the Asheville area, go to her! You will not regret it!

Ada's First Birthday Party

The script “one” balloon banner came from Shop Sweet Lulu. I love this shop! They have beautiful and unique party supplies, all at a great price! I also got our balloons from here because they had the perfect colors!

The pinwheels came from PaperWeeds. She was great to work with and sent me my pinwheels quickly! Using pinwheels for decorations was one of my favorite ideas! They are so cute and fun! The tassel garland was made by me.

Ada's First Birthday Party

I used PaperWeeds’ pinwheels in my flower arrangements as well. The blue mason jars came from Shop Sweet Lulu, which I love and plan on using them for everything from here on! The “Mimosa Bar” sign was made by me as well.

The party was so fun to plan and put together. The day was perfect and I know Ada enjoyed all the decorations and celebrating! Thank you to all the shops I used, you made the party beautiful! A special thank you to my mom, who helped me out so much in getting this party together! And thank you to all who came to celebrate our little girl! You all mean the world to us and we love you! Thank you for making our daughter’s day!

Now on to planning the next party! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ada’s First Birthday Party

As you all know, we love to celebrate here at the Maples’ house. So you can imagine how long I have been planning Ada’s first birthday. We talked about going simple, since Ada will most likely not remember this party – but who areย we kidding? Parties here are big or not at all! ๐Ÿ˜‰

img_8210

The inspiration for Ada’s party came from the yellow swiss bow I had gotten her months ago. I love the yellow color and it got me to thinking about using it for part of her birthday outfit. Which lead to the theme of her party: You Are My Sunshine!

Ada's First Birthday Party

We had friends and family over for brunch – chicken & waffles, ham & cheese pinwheels, sausage & cheese quiche, a yogurt bar, and of course, a mimosa bar! You can’t have brunch without mimosas, am I right?!

Every holiday and special occasion I get Ada a book. I don’t think I could have found a more perfect book for her first birthday! The story is so sweet and the illustrations are beautiful!

It was a perfect day! I think Ada had a great time and enjoyed being in the center of attention all day! She especially enjoyed smashing that cake!

Happy First Birthday Ada Marie! You are the sunshine in our lives! We love you more than words can describe!

One Year Recap

I still find it incredibly hard to believe that Ada is a one year old! It feels like just yesterday I brought home our small bundle of joy and at the same time I can’t remember what our lives were like before Ada. I love this sweet girl more than I ever thought was possible!

Looking back on all our photos from this past year, does make me tear up a bit. But at the same time makes me smile, watching our daughter grow, change and learn has been the most fun I have ever had! And I look forward to all the new adventures we will have in the future with Ada.

12 Months

Today is the day my little baby Ada turns one. All day today has been moments of laughing, followed by me bursting into tears. Does this whole mom emotional thing ever get any better? ๐Ÿ˜‰ It feels like just yesterday I was holding my little girl for the very first time and now she is one.

Week Three 38

It has been an absolute joy watching Ada grow, change, and learn. This past year has been the best year of my life and I can’t even remember what life was like before Ada. She has completed our family and lives so perfectly and completely.

Ada has to be the sweetest, calmest baby ever! She loves to snuggle and will stop doing what ever she is doing for a quick snuggle. Her favorite thing to do right now is to summon you over by opening and closing her hands in which she demands to snuggle for a second. As she snuggles up to you she says, “Aww.” It is seriously the sweetest thing you will ever see! She is happy pretty much all the time, unless she has skipped a nap then she is Miss. Grumpy Pants.

IMG_7945

She has finally figured out her walker and she is rolling all around the house. She loves to follow me around while I am cleaning or cooking. It is the greatest because I can get so much done while she is in there! She scoots and army crawls backwards. I am hoping that she will get to forward crawling soon. But to be honest, I am just relieved that she can army crawl backwards – she is finally on the move! ๐Ÿ˜‰

She officially has 3 teeth now – two lower and an eye tooth. I am certain that she is working on her front teeth and the other eye tooth so sleep has been difficult for her. She has been getting up a lot these past two months. I hope that she finishes teething and starts sleeping through the night again soon!

IMG_7944

She is constantly repeating what Randy and I say. Her favorite right now is to play with her dog and say woof! woof! It is pretty darn cute! She can say – mama, dada, no, star, dog, kitty, bye-bye, yeah, duck, bath, and whoa. Whenever she is awake, she is constantly babbling a way. She is definitely a talker!

She still loves music and will dance and sing anytime she hears it. She also still loves her books. She can sit there flipping through her books forever. Her favorite stuff animals are her dogs, she usually has one with her at all times. Ada is still a great eater and will eat whatever I give her. She loves to feed herself now and even pretends to feed herself during play time. So she has a spoon and a small bowl in her hands all the time.

IMG_7946

We love you sweet Ada Marie! You are the sunshine in our lives, you brighten the room with your sweet smile and your contagious laugh! We couldn’t imagine life without you! Happy Birthday my sweet, darling girl!

What better way to celebrate turning 30 then putting on some pretty clothes, getting big balloons, and taking some photos?! Well, that is how we roll here in the Maples’ house! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I wanted to have a 30th birthday photoshoot so I could look back on these photos and remember – remember the good times and the bad, to remember being first time parents, to remember this time of change, and to remember that I dyed my hair pink for my 30th birthday (midlife crisis, maybe?)!
