Thoughts on 30-Something

This past weekend I turned 31, which is crazy to me, because I feel like I just posted our 30th birthday celebration not that long ago. How can another year already come and gone?! I swear life moves more quickly the older you get. But I am now officially in my thirties… not just 30 but in my thirties! Even though I struggle with the idea that I am older and that I’m a somewhat functioning adult – oh, and a mom; I still feel eternally grateful that I am getting older. Getting older is a privilege. I am grateful to have spent another year on this earth and that I got to spend it with my family and friends.

People say that the 20s are the best years. My 20s were great – they were years of self-discoveries, making mistakes, changing my mind, and exploring the world around me. In those years, I accomplished what others said I couldn’t – getting a degree in physics. In college, I met my best friends and my soulmate. I got married in my 20s, we bought our first house in our 20s, and we traveled to Italy and had many other great adventures. Yeah, my 20s were great. But, I feel like I am living the best years of my life now.

Since I have come into my 30s, I have discovered that I have changed, in a good way.

  • I am more self-confident, than I ever was in my early 20s. My self image has changed. Since having a baby, my body isn’t the same and you know what? I am perfectly ok with that. My body has done some amazing things these past few years and I am proud of it. Now I am more concerned of becoming an example for Ada. I want her to have a role model that can show her how to be confident in her own skin. To know that true beauty is within.
  • I feel more settled in my sense of style and who I am. I always felt like a late bloomer in this area. Before I got married, I worn nothing but jeans and t-shirts. But now I know who I am and what I like, regardless of popular opinion.
  • My health has become an invaluable asset. I have always been health conscious, but now that I’m getting older and starting to see some “age” on my face, I am taking even better care of myself. Like, washing my face every single night (yeah, I was one of those that didn’t do that!). And as always, eating healthy (well, as best as I can – I do love me some ice cream) and getting at least some physical activity everyday (having a toddler helps with that). You only have one body and I want to do the best I can to treat it right. 😉
  • And last but certainly not least, I became a mom when I was 29 (great way to end my 20s, uh?). Having Ada in our lives has been the greatest blessing of all. It is because of her, that I am now living the best years of my life.

So there you have it, 30s are so much better than your 20s! 😉

This weekend my family came up and went with me to the “Tour de Fat” at the New Belgium brewery. And whole reason we went was to see Third Eye Blind; my favorite band in high school. It was a fantastic concert and I felt young again! 😉 We had a blast eating food truck food, drinking beer, and singing at the top of our lungs to songs I blasted through my car stereo in my high school parking lot. It was a great night!

Thank you all for my birthday wishes and to those to celebrated with me. And a special thanks to my parents for watching over my little girl. 30 was a great year and I am looking forward to this year. Heres to living in your thirties and making them the best years of our lives!

18 Month Snapshot

Today my sweet, little baby turns 1.5 years old! And what better way to celebrate, then with donuts for breakfast!?

mmm… which one?

We went to a local restaurant called, Hendough. They serve homemade donuts and fried chicken – yeah, it is awesome! Ada loved her chocolate donut and couldn’t stuff it in her mouth fast enough!

And about two seconds after this photo was taken, Ada decided to grab the basket of donuts and fling them around. Resulting in a chocolate donut and coffee fiasco. The hot coffee went everywhere, including my white jeans. Note to future self: Never, ever, ever wear white around a toddler. Besides feeling like a hot mess (see what I did there? haha!), we had a great birthday breakfast.

Age: 18 months

Stats: Last time we were at the doctor, Ada was in the 95th percentile in height and weighed 22lbs. She is one tall little girl. So tall, that I have had to start buying 2T clothing for the length – even though the 2T shirts hang off her shoulders.

Favorite Foods: pasta, bread, cheese, crackers, apples, black beans, sweet potatoes – just to name a few. This girl has always enjoyed food and will pretty much eat what ever I put in front of her.

Favorite Words: hi, belly button (bee-boo), no, yes, snack (nack), beep-beep, hop-hop (what she calls her lovie), and bath (ba-ba) – Her vocab has always been extensive. She probably can say about 30 words consistently and can repeat everything that we say. So we have to make sure that we watch our words around her! 😉

Favorite Activities: Ada has been a bit motor delayed. She isn’t walking on her own yet, but she is cruising along the furniture and is getting stronger and better everyday. She can walk around while I hold her hands and she loves to climb the stairs. Her favorite toy right now is the Little Tike car. She loves to be pushed around in it outside in our driveway; all the while screaming, “Beep! Beep!” It is pretty darn cute and I can’t help but smile whenever she does this. Ada loves to color and her favorite is the, “My First Crayola Mess-Free Marker & Paper.” I love that I can leave her alone with this and not worry about my walls getting marked up. One of her favorite activities, is playing tea. She has a tea set for the bath that she just loves to play with. She also loves to wrestle and roll around on the floor with her daddy. They do it every night and I just love hearing them both laugh and Ada squealing in delight!

Least Favorite Activities: She hates getting her diaper or clothes changed. She will scream at me just about every time. Now when she needs a diaper change, Randy and I will go back & forth on whose turn it is to enjoy the scream fest. Ada has started tantrums, which are just wonderful…. She gets so mad when we have to end a fun activity to go eat or take a nap. The worst is when I won’t let her scoot around on the floor in public (like the grocery store). I know we are both getting frustrated that she can’t walk on her own yet. I am hoping that this will give her even more incentive to learn to walk on her own even faster!

Signature Moves: Blowing kisses and saying muah, waving hello and goodbye to everyone, dancing when she hears music, and singing when we sing a song she “knows” together (she usually just says, La la la!), and making silly faces to make us laugh.

This has been such a great age, but also pretty trying. I am hoping that once she starts walking on her own, things will be just a little bit better. But who am I kidding? When she starts walking, I’ll just be exhausted from chasing her all day! 😉 I do think when she starts walking on her own, it will help with some things – like, the tantrums in the grocery store! But I love being a mom and I am so incredibly grateful that I get to spend everyday with this silly, sweet girl of mine. Happy 18th month birthday Ada Marie! You are so loved!

Party Details

Ada's First Birthday Party

I had so much fun planning Ada’s first birthday and I really love how everything came together. One of the best things about the blogging world, is learning and sharing from each other. I love reading posts about parties and how it all came together. So here is my contribution regarding my daughter’s first birthday party.

Since the inspiration came from Ada’s yellow bow, I will start with our outfits!

Ada’s bow is from Free Babes Homemade and her romper is handmade from The Cranky Peach. I love the colors and pattern of her romper. It matched the colors of her party so well! My dress is from ModCloth – you wouldn’t believe how difficult it was to find a dress that was pink and yellow. Who knew!?!

The retro “You Are My Sunshine” prints came from KZukowski. She was great to work with and she even tweaked the colors a little to better match the party. I originally found these prints at thelandofnod.com, but they wanted $40 a piece for them! That was a bit too much! KZukowski was cheaper and I got them custom! They will be perfect for Ada’s nursery/playroom now that the party is over.

The “Ada is One” print is from INVITEDbyAudriana. I used her entire, “You Are My Sunshine”, party pack – it came with invitations, food tents, Ada is One print, and the party favor tags.

The “You Are My Sunshine” banner and woolie ball banner came from Hooray Everyday. Hana was great to work with and she made a custom banner with my party colors. I love how they turned out and plan on using them again in Ada’s nursery/playroom!

I made the monthly milestone banner with baker’s twine and mini clothespins. I love it paired with the woolie ball banner! It adds a beautiful pop of color.

All the brunch food I made was really good! Here are the recipes I used: sausage & cheese quiche, mini chicken & waffles, and ham & cheese pinwheels.

The cakes were made by a friend of ours from Perfectly Pretty Sweets. Not only were the cakes gorgeous, but they tasted amazing! I was so glad to have leftover cake, I got to enjoy it all by myself for several days! (I am going to have to start running now!) If you need a baker in the Asheville area, go to her! You will not regret it!

Ada's First Birthday Party

The script “one” balloon banner came from Shop Sweet Lulu. I love this shop! They have beautiful and unique party supplies, all at a great price! I also got our balloons from here because they had the perfect colors!

The pinwheels came from PaperWeeds. She was great to work with and sent me my pinwheels quickly! Using pinwheels for decorations was one of my favorite ideas! They are so cute and fun! The tassel garland was made by me.

Ada's First Birthday Party

I used PaperWeeds’ pinwheels in my flower arrangements as well. The blue mason jars came from Shop Sweet Lulu, which I love and plan on using them for everything from here on! The “Mimosa Bar” sign was made by me as well.

The party was so fun to plan and put together. The day was perfect and I know Ada enjoyed all the decorations and celebrating! Thank you to all the shops I used, you made the party beautiful! A special thank you to my mom, who helped me out so much in getting this party together! And thank you to all who came to celebrate our little girl! You all mean the world to us and we love you! Thank you for making our daughter’s day!

Now on to planning the next party! 😉

Ada’s First Birthday Party

As you all know, we love to celebrate here at the Maples’ house. So you can imagine how long I have been planning Ada’s first birthday. We talked about going simple, since Ada will most likely not remember this party – but who are we kidding? Parties here are big or not at all! 😉

The inspiration for Ada’s party came from the yellow swiss bow I had gotten her months ago. I love the yellow color and it got me to thinking about using it for part of her birthday outfit. Which lead to the theme of her party: You Are My Sunshine!

Ada's First Birthday Party

We had friends and family over for brunch – chicken & waffles, ham & cheese pinwheels, sausage & cheese quiche, a yogurt bar, and of course, a mimosa bar! You can’t have brunch without mimosas, am I right?!

We enjoyed the day eating, drinking, and dancing around with Ada! I even made a playlist with songs all about sunshine!

And then the best part of the day was watching Ada enjoy her smash cake. I was a little worried that she wouldn’t get into it, but I was wrong – very wrong! Cake went everywhere! It was awesome!

After giving Ada a bath, we opened her presents; which she did a great job trying to open. She loved pulling tissue paper out of the bags and ripping the paper.

The party favors were bags full of old fashion candy – in her birthday colors, of course! 😉

Every holiday and special occasion I get Ada a book. I don’t think I could have found a more perfect book for her first birthday! The story is so sweet and the illustrations are beautiful!

It was a perfect day! I think Ada had a great time and enjoyed being in the center of attention all day! She especially enjoyed smashing that cake!

Happy First Birthday Ada Marie! You are the sunshine in our lives! We love you more than words can describe!

Note: I plan on giving all the details about the party and sharing the sources next post!

One Year Recap

I still find it incredibly hard to believe that Ada is a one year old! It feels like just yesterday I brought home our small bundle of joy and at the same time I can’t remember what our lives were like before Ada. I love this sweet girl more than I ever thought was possible!

Looking back on all our photos from this past year, does make me tear up a bit. But at the same time makes me smile, watching our daughter grow, change and learn has been the most fun I have ever had! And I look forward to all the new adventures we will have in the future with Ada.

12 Months

Today is the day my little baby Ada turns one. All day today has been moments of laughing, followed by me bursting into tears. Does this whole mom emotional thing ever get any better? 😉 It feels like just yesterday I was holding my little girl for the very first time and now she is one.

Week Three 38

It has been an absolute joy watching Ada grow, change, and learn. This past year has been the best year of my life and I can’t even remember what life was like before Ada. She has completed our family and lives so perfectly and completely.

Ada has to be the sweetest, calmest baby ever! She loves to snuggle and will stop doing what ever she is doing for a quick snuggle. Her favorite thing to do right now is to summon you over by opening and closing her hands in which she demands to snuggle for a second. As she snuggles up to you she says, “Aww.” It is seriously the sweetest thing you will ever see! She is happy pretty much all the time, unless she has skipped a nap then she is Miss. Grumpy Pants.

She has finally figured out her walker and she is rolling all around the house. She loves to follow me around while I am cleaning or cooking. It is the greatest because I can get so much done while she is in there! She scoots and army crawls backwards. I am hoping that she will get to forward crawling soon. But to be honest, I am just relieved that she can army crawl backwards – she is finally on the move! 😉

She officially has 3 teeth now – two lower and an eye tooth. I am certain that she is working on her front teeth and the other eye tooth so sleep has been difficult for her. She has been getting up a lot these past two months. I hope that she finishes teething and starts sleeping through the night again soon!

She is constantly repeating what Randy and I say. Her favorite right now is to play with her dog and say woof! woof! It is pretty darn cute! She can say – mama, dada, no, star, dog, kitty, bye-bye, yeah, duck, bath, and whoa. Whenever she is awake, she is constantly babbling a way. She is definitely a talker!

She still loves music and will dance and sing anytime she hears it. She also still loves her books. She can sit there flipping through her books forever. Her favorite stuff animals are her dogs, she usually has one with her at all times. Ada is still a great eater and will eat whatever I give her. She loves to feed herself now and even pretends to feed herself during play time. So she has a spoon and a small bowl in her hands all the time.

We love you sweet Ada Marie! You are the sunshine in our lives, you brighten the room with your sweet smile and your contagious laugh! We couldn’t imagine life without you! Happy Birthday my sweet, darling girl!

30th Birthday Photoshoot

What better way to celebrate turning 30 then putting on some pretty clothes, getting big balloons, and taking some photos?! Well, that is how we roll here in the Maples’ house! 😉 I wanted to have a 30th birthday photoshoot so I could look back on these photos and remember – remember the good times and the bad, to remember being first time parents, to remember this time of change, and to remember that I dyed my hair pink for my 30th birthday (midlife crisis, maybe?)!

Let’s not forget the sparkly, gold shoes! Because remember: “Cinderella is proof that a new pair of shoes can change your life!” (true story!) 🙂

Isn’t his tie amazing?! I love how he ties his ties; so fancy!

I am one lucky girl! He is so incredibly handsome! 🙂

See! He can be just as silly as me!

And my favorite picture of Randy, probably ever! My husband laughing… makes me smile every time I look at it.

Here’s to 30! I am blessed to be able to share turning 30 with my best friend! The best is yet to come, my darling!

Our 30th Birthday

This year Randy and I turn the big 3-0! I know, 30! To be honest, I have been looking forward to our 30th birthdays for a while because I have always wanted to have a huge party for our 30th birthdays. Turns out when you have a little one, it is really hard to plan a big party at your house when the baby goes to sleep around 7pm! So after weeks of trying to figure out what to do for our 30th, it came to me on a night that Ada was extremely fussy and would not sleep. I had been up with her for a few days and I was about to reach my limit. It was then that I knew how we should celebrate, I wanted a night off. I told Randy want I wanted and he was instantly on board. We started planning and got everything set up weeks in advance. And it turned out the be the best birthday ever!

Randy used his Hilton points to get us a wonderful suite complete with an infinity whirlpool tub! It was the coolest room I have ever stayed in!

The Hilton at Biltmore Square was great and treated us like royalty! They even sent up a complimentary cheese tray to help celebrate our birthdays. We thought that was so thoughtful! We enjoyed the cheese tray with some wine before our first ever couples massage. I must have been living under a rock my whole life because massages are fantastic! I want one every year for my birthday now!

After a heavenly massage we spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing. Just what new parents need – sleep! 😉 That night we had dinner and drinks with some friends. Afterwards, we enjoyed our large hotel room, drinking champagne, eating cupcakes, and playing Cards Against Humanity. We laughed so hard that all of us were crying and complaining about sore cheeks and abs. It was so nice to laugh loud and have a good time without worrying about waking up a sleeping baby! 🙂

We had such a wonderful birthday and I couldn’t imagine it going any better! It will be a night that I will always remember and think back on. And we felt recharged after having a whole day to just “adult”. A day to relax, have fun with some friends, and to not worry about taking care of a little human. But the best thing about leaving, was coming back home to our sweet little girl.

Randy’s 30th Birthday

This past Monday, my sweet husband turned 30! I had planned to have a big party at our house with all of our friends and family, but we decided against it. It is hard to throw a party with a baby! 😉 Instead, we plan on having a wonderful night out, just the two of us, closer to my 30th birthday. But we celebrated a little bit for Randy’s birthday this past weekend. Since the weather has been so beautiful, we decided to take Ada on her first hike!

Had to take a little break. 🙂

She did really well in her backpack carrier at first. Then she cried and cried and cried. So we transferred her to the Ergo and she was happy again.

Isn’t that waterfall gorgeous?! I love where we live!

I carried her for a while in the Ergo, then we moved her back into the backpack without the sunshade and she was perfectly content with that. So I guess it was the sunshade that freaked her out. Either way, babies sure do keep you guessing! 😉

Back when it was just Randy and I hiking, we would just need our camelbacks. Now we have to bring the daypack and the backpack carrier (which has tons of storage too). Maybe we overpacked, but you have to bring a lot for a baby! Diapers, wipes, bottles, formula, extra clothes, pacifiers, toys – you get the picture! Although, I will admit, seeing little Sophie in the pack was pretty darn cute. But Ada was even cuter – looking so cool in her North Face hat.

Overall, I think Ada enjoyed it. She was just taking everything in – the trees, the waterfalls, the people, the sky. Turned out we didn’t need the toys to entertain her! 😉

To finish our day, we stopped by Oskar Blues Brewery. We enjoyed a cold one, while little Ada took a nap. She was tuckered out! Poor thing! She had a full day. 🙂

Happy 30th Birthday my love! Ada and I are the luckiest girls in the world! Thank you for everything you do for us. We love you so very much!

Six Months of Ada

Happy 1/2 Birthday Ada Marie!

I know I say this all the time and I will probably keep saying it, but I just can’t believe how fast time has gone! And I can’t believe how much Ada has grown and changed. I just want time to slow down, so I can enjoy each new thing she does and each new discovery she makes.

My sweet little Ada doesn’t seem so little anymore! She is sitting up on her own, mostly; and she is eating solids like a champ! For a while, I was worried because she wasn’t sitting up on her own and she didn’t have any interest to reach for things. Then 3 days ago, it was like, she woke up and was sitting on her own and getting her hands on everything she could reach! She has been sleeping through the night every night now for almost 3 weeks. It has been glorious! Naps are still kind of spotty, but she takes at least 2 good naps (45 min each) every day. Not a lot of free time for this mama, during the day, but she sleeps through the night, so I’ll take it!

This age has been so much fun! I love that she is sitting up and grabbing everything. She is so much fun to play with right now! She loves rattlers, stuff animals and books. Peek-a-boo is still her favorite game and it is the game that her and Randy play every night before bedtime. I love how happy she is pretty much all the time. She just laughs and smiles all the day long – makes my heart melt every time!

My favorite “new thing” she does now is how she shows affection towards us. A few times now, she has grabbed my face and pulled it down to her wide open mouth. I think she is trying to kiss me! It seriously the sweetest thing in all the world! I just about cry every time she does it. She is all the time grabbing my face and pulling herself closer to me. It hurts when she does it, but I don’t care. I am enjoying every stinging moment of it, because I know she is just trying to show me some loving! 😉 Randy went on a camping trip last weekend and when he came home she just touched and patted his face over and over again. It was so sweet to watch!

We love you sweet little Ada! Every day we grow more and more in love with you; you complete us! Happy 6 Months, my love!
