Halloween 2017

This Halloween was probably the best yet! Ada is at such a fun age right now. I wish she could stay this age forever! I love her running around, asking questions, chatting with us, and understanding what a party signifies. (That’s my girl!) I told her several days in advance that we were having a Halloween party with our friends. She got all excited and started singing, “Happy Birthday!” I am so proud! 😉

We had a simple party with good eats, pumpkin painting with glow-in-the-dark paint, and glow sticks. I think my favorite part were the glow stick necklaces & bracelets. The kids loved them, of course, but watching the adults enjoy them too was even better! I had a great time decorating for Halloween this year, which was pretty much the first for me. Target had so many cute things that it was easy and fun.

After the party, Randy found a video of a boozy caramel apple bar. Sounds like it could be fun! I guess we will just have to have another party soon! 😉

Ada had her very first s’more, but I am not sure she liked it. Blasphemy I know… no way she can be my kid. Just kidding! I think she didn’t like the sticky marshmallow all over her face. She is such a little princess and I love it.

On Halloween night, we took Ada trick or treating for the first time. We stopped by a local petting zoo, where we trick or treated and got to pet animals. Ada, naturally, fell in love with this baby bunny. But who am I kidding? We all fell in love with this little baby bunny! It was all we could do to give the bunny back. She screamed bloody murder until we gave her, her very first sucker. After that, the bunny was old news. So now Ada has been asking for candy ever since. After the zoo, we took her downtown to go trick or treating at all the shops.

Celebrating Halloween with Ada has been so much fun! Seeing the joy and excitement in her eyes is, seriously, the greatest thing of all time. I loved dressing all of us up as her favorite characters from Monsters, Inc. I hope we can continue to do family costumes, but time will tell. Until then, I am going to soak it all in – the family costumes, the magic, holding her hand from door to door, and giving her candy for dinner. I hope you all had a great Halloween! Happy November, ya’ll!

Halloween Fun

Since it is Halloween month, I have been having so much fun finding Halloween activities for Ada to do. After the pumpkin painting party, she has been talking non-stop about it. (Which makes me feel like mom of year over here!) So I thought I would print out some pumpkins for her to decorate and send to the grandparents.

I ordered more Crayola Kid’s Washable Paint, but this time I got glitter paint. I love the vivid colors and the glitter just makes it so fun. Ada calls it shiny paint then proceeds to sing, “Cause I’m shiny!” (Moana song for those of you who do not know).

After painting, we had a picnic lunch that was pumpkin themed. I cut her PB&J sandwich with a mini pumpkin cookie cutter, served carrots and ranch in a pumpkin bowl and cheez-its (because they are orange and delicious and addicting — oh, why did I buy cheez-its?!). Oh and her orange drink is actually orange Pedialyte (she has been under the weather for the past couple of days).

And to top it all off, an adorable kitty outfit! OldNavy has done it again with their Boo-tique this year. I love all the black cats and Ada’s second favorite animal is a kitty. So she will be sporting this outfit all month long and then some. 😉

I hope you are all having as much fun as we are! And that you are celebrating Halloween all month long! 😉

Pumpkin Painting Party

Tis the season for pumpkin everything! And since Ada just loves to paint, I figured a pumpkin painting party would be the perfect way to celebrate fall/Halloween. Plus, carving a pumpkin with a two year old sounds like a terrible mess! This way, we can still decorate a pumpkin without all the cleanup. Win, win!

Last week, the weather was perfect for painting outside. I just cut open a large black garbage bag to put over my table to help contain the paint and we used Crayola’s Washable Paint (which is amazing, btw!). I also had colorful Halloween stickers and pumpkin tattoos for the kids to use.

Inside, we had some tasty goodies to enjoy! Apple cider & pumpkin donuts, s’mores cookies, pretzels, apple slices with caramel, and hot apple cider. The kids were definitely running around with a sugar high by the end of the party. But it was totally worth it! 😉

I found these adorable party favor bags in the dollar section of Target! I just love the bright colors! I filled the bags with fun size bags of M&Ms and they also got to take home a kitty pumpkin tattoo.

We all had so much fun and I had a blast putting it all together! Ada is still talking about painting pumpkins so it sounds like I need to go pick up some more pumpkins! 😉 Happy early Halloween ya’ll!

Party Sources: I found all my Halloween decorations in the dollar section of Target. And I made the paper bats.

Welcome to Oz: Our Halloween

I have been patiently impatiently waiting to do family costumes for Halloween for a long time now, and this year my dream came true! We had a blast dressing up together and I hope to continue to do so for years to come!

This year we were : Glinda the Good Witch, little Dorothy Gale, and the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz!

For mine and Randy’s costumes we were inspired by the movie, “The Great and Powerful Oz.” Plus, it was easy to replicate their versions of the characters. I don’t exactly have a big, pink ball gown laying around, like what Billie Burke wore on, “The Wizard of Oz.” 😉 But I do have a dress similar to what Michelle Williams wore. All I had to add was a crown and ta da! Glinda the Good Witch.

Randy just wore one of his suits and I found a bow tie and top hat for him to wear from Amazon. Ada’s dress came from a consignment shop and I have been holding on to it for about 6 months now. Luckily, it fit her beautifully! Her shoes came from Gap and her red glitter bows came from BeckandBelle. I did get some thick, white tights for Ada to wear because it is always freezing cold on Halloween. But this year, was the first year that I can remember that it was in the high 70s for Halloween. Say what? But I was grateful for the beautiful day, because we were able to enjoy outside and take cute pictures of Ada.

Those pigtails just kill me!

We celebrated Halloween by taking Ada to a local petting zoo that was having a Halloween party. She had a blast! She loves farm animals right now. She “moo-ed” and “baa-ed” all through the zoo. It was the cutest ever! Our dear friend came along, too, with her adorable son.

I think Ada’s favorite animal was the bunny. Her lovie that she sleeps with every night is a bunny, so she just loved seeing and petting a real one.

They had music playing and a dance party as well. They played Ada’s favorite song, “Old MacDonald”; which she tries so hard to sing, “E-I-E-I-O”. Makes my heart melt every time!

Halloween 2016

After the petting zoo, we all came back to our house to have a simple Halloween party. Our babies were about to lose it about this time, so Ada did not stay up long after getting put into her costume. But we still had fun together taking photos of everyone! I made this photo backdrop to use for our pictures. The kids thought it was awesome and tore up all the yellow brick road bricks and hid behind the rainbow.

Isn’t Aldrick the cutest scarecrow? It was even better when he was walking around and his little scarecrow feet were flopping around.

And here we have the scarecrow and the cowardly lion. They are so cute!

Overall, we had a wonderful time and look forward to doing it again next year!

Ada’s First Halloween

I have been looking forward to celebrating Ada’s first holiday for months now. And since she can’t eat candy, we didn’t go trick or treating. It would be a little weird trick or treating with an infant, don’t you think? Instead we had an easy and low key weekend, just hanging out with friends and snuggling with little Ada.

I found Ada’s halloween outfit at Gap and just fell in love with it. I love this little kitty hat and Ada loves looking at this book.

Just look at those cheeks!

Then my mom got her this “mommy’s pumpkin” shirt, which is perfect because I call her my little pumpkin. She will probably be wearing this outfit as much as possible this fall before she outgrows it!

She is such a little wiggle worm! It’s hard to get a decent photo of her because she moves so much. I know that this will only get harder as she gets older!

And Randy was able to finally get some decent photos of Ada and I. I just love this little pumpkin!

We had a nice relaxing Halloween weekend by the fire and I loved dressing up Ada. Hope everyone had a great weekend as well. Now the holiday season has officially begun! Can’t wait for my favorite holiday…. Thanksgiving!

Pumpkin Carving

Sorry this is late, but better late than never, right?!  I just haven’t been home long enough to write this post…. but here it is!

For Halloween this year, we celebrated with our small group, from church, by having a pumpkin carving party at our house. We enjoyed the cool fall weather on our back porch around a hot fire with chili and s’mores. It was a perfect fall evening.

We finally bought the chiminea that has been on our wish list for so long. We love having a fire on our back porch… I can have s’mores anytime I want!

Using plastic tablecloths was a great idea! Just place all the mess on them and after it is all said and done – scoop it up and throw it all away. Easy peasy!

Can you tell that we have some nerds in our group? Makes me so happy! Randy and I fit right in!

My nucleus did not turn out as well as I hoped, but it was fun trying!

I am so glad I have all these people to help me figure out everything that life throws at me. I am truly blessed with such great friends.

Hope you had a Happy Halloween… now on to Thanksgiving!
