Holiday Gift Guide

Happy Friday ya’ll! The weekend is almost here and so is Christmas! Thankfully, most of my Christmas shopping is complete! But there are still a few little things that I would like to get. I sometimes struggle picking out Christmas presents, especially for Randy. That is why I love reading blogs to get ideas and inspiration to help me pick out the perfect gift. So here is my gift guide for Christmas this year. This list is basically mine and Randy’s wish list this year, with a few extra items that we need.

For Her: Necklace / Mixing Bowls / Pom Pom Beanie / Candle / FitBit

For Him: GoPro / Camper Mug / Fleece Pants / Moscow Mule Mugs / Socks

For all the ladies, this necklace is so sweet! It is custom made and you can get anything stamped on it – a name, a date, etc. Such a sweet gift for a mom or grandma. I know it is on my wish list this year! 😉

A few days ago, I couldn’t sleep and decided to get up and make muffins for everyone. It was then that I realized that I do not like my stainless steel mixing bowls. They make the most awful clanging noise with just the slightest touch (which isn’t good when everyone in the house is still sleeping) and they can not be microwaved (which you need to do to melt butter). So I decided I was ready for different, prettier mixing bowls. I love the ones from West Elm that are labeled whisk, mix, and stir. But since those are no longer available, these will do just fine.

This candle is my most favorite candle of all time! No joke! It has such a nice clean smell and I love using it in my bedroom. But it is nice for anywhere! Also, I am in love with their fir & firewood candle for Christmas. Most fir candles smell disgusting, but not this one! Just try it – you will love it, I promise! 😉

The FitBit has been on my wish list for a little while, but I am glad I waited. Isn’t this rose gold one, great?!

Randy has been wanting a GoPro for a couple of years now; so I know that he is excited for Christmas morning (yes, he picked out his Christmas this year.)! Plus, we plan to use it as a family camera – I can’t wait to take some fun videos of Ada.

Randy can always use a new pair of fleece pants to lounge around in and his favorite ones are from REI. He also can always use dress socks for work. His favorites come from Banana Republic and they have fun Christmas print ones, too!

Happy Shopping! 🙂

Cozy Favorites

The cold mountain weather has arrived making it so all I want to do is snuggle up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa (with extra marshmallows, of course!). This is my favorite part of winter. I look forward to the cold days just so we can use our fireplace. Ada is fascinated by the fireplace and we have been teaching her that is hot. So now every time she sees it she holds her little hand out and says, “ah-it.” It is pretty darn cute!

With this cold weather, I have been living in cozy, comfy clothes. So I gathered up my favorites for both mamas and minis.

One: The gray sweatshirt has been my go to this week. It has everything I want in a sweatshirt – thumb holes, no hoodie, soft, and warm.

Two: I am in love with this scarf! I love the pattern and colors. It is on my wish list for Christmas this year.

Three: I wear a big, warm cardigan all the time when it is cold. It is what I constantly grab on my way out to run errands. Makes me feel a little bit more put together, even though I am not!

Four: Hats are definitely my thing and always have been. But now they are necessary, since I don’t always have the time to wash my hair every day! 😉 And pom pom beanies are so cute for both mamas and minis!

Five: This gray magical shirt for Ada, is seriously the softest thing I have ever touched. I wished it came in my size, too!

Six: Are these not the cutest little boots you have ever seen?! This is going on my wish list for Ada for Christmas; because every girl needs a cute pair of boots!

Seven: Another cardigan from Old Navy that is just so perfect!

And look! I was able to capture Ada’s sweet little smile! It is so hard to get a photo of her smiling. She is either looking away or staring into your soul. I love this shy, sweet girl of mine!

I hope you are staying warm and happy Friday ya’ll!

Fall Favorites

Hello beautiful fall! I am so glad that you are officially here!

Fall just brings the best of everything – the best weather, the best food, and of course, the best clothes! The fall clothes for littles and mamas are so great this year. I am struggling not to spend every penny on clothes and accessories for us both! Why are baby girl clothes so perfectly cute?! Anyways, here are a few of my favorite finds lately:

  1. Gray Dress – I really like the simplicity of this dress, plus; it is super soft. It will be great paired with some mustard leggings and boots!
  2. Little Pumpkin – I absolutely adore this sweatshirt! When I saw it online, I bought it immediately and I am so glad that I did. It is no longer available now! But here is a great option; I got this shirt last year for Ada. My pet name for Ada is pumpkin, so anything pumpkin related for Ada is a must have!
  3. Peplum Shirt – These peplum shirts are so beautiful and they look so cute on. I have paired this gray one with mustard leggings and she looks so adorable! I also really like that it is a onesie, no riding up and it will help keep her warm this fall.
  4. Floral Leggings – As you can tell, I am loving this floral pattern. It has all my favorite colors – navy, mustard, and pink!
  5. Hair bow – All the small shops this year are killing it with all the fall patterns! This one has been my favorite so far (favorite colors, remember?)!
  6. Dress and Cape – Isn’t this outfit amazing?! I have been looking for a navy dress and this one is perfect. And look at that cape! It is to die for!
  7. Hat – And of course, you can never go wrong with a hat! Especially, when you do not have time to wash your hair in the mornings! 😉 Cloche hats are my favorite style – so classy and elegant!
  8. Mustard Cardigan – And everyone needs a mustard cardigan in their closet. So glad that Old Navy had this one for Ada. They also offer navy and red, which I really like, too.

I hope you are out enjoying this first day of fall today! Happy Fall ya’ll!

Just look at those two adorable teeth! 🙂

Spring Style: For the Nursing Mom

Being pregnant obviously changes your wardrobe but I had no idea that breastfeeding could change it so much too. I remember being 8 months pregnant in July, with swollen feet and cankles, longing for my old wardrobe and shoes. I can remember thinking, “Don’t worry, Jama. In a few months, you will be able to wear your clothes again!” Boy was I wrong! Not only did it take me a while to lose enough baby weight to feel comfortable in my old clothes again, but my old wardrobe was not breastfeeding friendly.

While pregnant, I tried to find clothes that were not “maternity” but clothes that I could possibly wear after pregnancy. I feel the same way about breastfeeding. So I put together a list of ideas for your spring breastfeeding wardrobe that you can wear again and again.

Spring Style

Hoodie – I found this hoodie on Athleta. It isn’t a breastfeeding top, but definitely works like one; especially since I wear a nursing tank top underneath. It is very soft, lightweight, and so comfortable. I wear it all the time!

Breastfeeding Cover – This cover from Covered Goods, is the best thing I have bought for breastfeeding. It works like a scarf, a breastfeeding cover (with 360 degree cover), a carseat cover, and a highchair cover. I use it every time I am out running errands and get so many compliments on it. They come in many different colors and patterns. I just thought this pattern was fun and great for spring and summer outfits.

Button Up – Button up shirts are the obvious choice for breastfeeding. They are very convenient and if you wear a nursing tank top underneath, you have good coverage. I love this polka dot chambray shirt for spring and summer.

Teething Necklace – The Jones Market makes my favorite teething necklaces. They are safe for babies to chew on and to pull on. Ada enjoys playing with this necklace while she breastfeeds. And I feel a little bit more put together when I wear a cute necklace. 😉

Draped Cardigan – This is one of the items in my closet that I am constantly grabbing. I usually throw this cardigan over a nursing tank top and I am good to go. The extra fabric in the front is actually nice to use as a cover while breastfeeding, too.

Cargo Vest – This is another item that I am always wearing. I love this vest and it has quickly become my favorite accessory. This vest is great to help hide some of that postpartum weight around the middle and it is very versatile. You can wear it with jeans and a t-shirt or with a dress. You can dress it up or dress it down. I just love this vest!

Hat – I feel like I am constantly wearing a hat these days. Mostly because washing my hair takes so long and time is something you don’t have a lot of when you have a baby! So dry shampoo and hats have quickly become my best friends! I am glad that warmer weather has arrived because you can never go wrong with a cute, straw cloche hat!

I hope this has helped you out in deciding what in the world to wear in this season of your life! Happy Hump Day!

Baby’s First Easter

I have had so much fun gathering items for Ada’s Easter basket this year! It can be a little difficult to find stuff for babies but for Easter it was easy! I guess because it is easy to find stuffed bunnies and bunny themed books for little ones! But for anyone out there who needs some last minute Easter basket ideas, here is what is in Ada’s basket!

I usually like to get Ada a pair of pjs or a holiday themed outfit, a toy or stuffed animal, books and hair bows! A simple guideline to help me find things we really like or need for Ada. She can always use clothes, she is growing so fast; books are always a smart and safe choice; and toys are hard to pick out, at least I think so. But she can always use new toys, since she is growing out of certain toy stages rather quickly. 🙂 Plus, it is just fun to get her holiday themed things to celebrate!

I just adore her Easter basket from Pottery Barn! I know it is something that we will continue to use for years to come!

I hope this helps give you a little inspiration and I hope you have a fantastic Easter weekend!

Valentine’s Day Fun

Hello February! Hard to believe that January is already over and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Just two weeks away and I couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this holiday with a little one! For the past two years, Valentine’s Day has been pretty epic for us. Two years ago, I was suppose to fly out to San Francisco to meet Randy, but got snowed in by snowstorm Pax instead (we still had a romantic weekend, regardless!). Last year, we announced that we were expecting Ada! And this year, we get to celebrate Valentine’s Day with our sweet little girl!

As you can see, I really enjoy celebrating every holiday with Ada. Having a baby is so much fun during any of the holidays and I love all the Valentine’s Day outfits and books for little ones. Here are some goodies I plan to give Ada for her first Valentine’s Day!

Book – I love getting books for each holiday for Ada. Actually, I just love getting books for Ada… it’s pretty bad! She already has a library of books, I just keep buying more! It’s an obsession! Good thing Ada loves looking at books, she has plenty to choose from!

Sippy cup – This cup has been great for Ada so far. She drinks from it with ease and loves looking at the colors. She has just started holding it too, so this cup is great for training!

Sleeper – Ada lives in sleepers! They are the best thing (I think) to put a baby in. This one is really cute with it’s matching bib. Ada also has several more Valentine’s Day themed sleepers from Old Navy. They are just too cute to pass up!

Heart Bath Cups – Since Ada finally enjoys bath time, I picked up these bath cups for her to play with. They have little holes on the bottom and they have soft edges. I think she is going to love playing with them.

Socks – These socks from Old Navy are not only really cute, but they are super soft. And the colors go with a lot of her wardrobe already, so she will be wearing them for a long time!

Bow – Zozu Baby is my favorite place to get Ada’s bows. This bow is so beautiful! I am excited for Ada to wear it for Valentine’s Day and for Easter! FYI, all the mini felt bows Ada wears everyday, I get them here.

Happy Monday ya’ll!

Four & Five Month Favorites

I feel like Ada has grown up so much this past month! She is now teething, eating some solids and is working on sitting up completely on her own now! It is almost like one day she woke up and decided she wanted to eat our food and sit up all by herself.  Where did my little newborn go?! 237b3fd5-7aa8-4a2d-9f06-9a37bca9d8cf

Nuby Bibs – With all this teething, Ada is a drooling machine! She goes through bibs and clothes at a phenomenal rate! That is, until I found these bibs. They truly keep Ada’s clothes dry and Ada enjoys the teether on the bottom too! They are kinda hard to find, but you can find them at Walmart and Target (but not Amazon!).

Bamboo Swaddle Blankets – I know I have mentioned these blankets before, but Ada has shown a huge interest in her blankets here lately. She loves holding onto them, rubbing her face with them and chewing on them. I like the bamboo swaddle the best because they are really thin and super soft. I feel comfortable with her napping with them because they are so thin and breathable. Plus, I just love this turquoise color!

Boogie Wipes – These wipes are nice for my teething Ada. Not only is she drooling a lot, she also has had a stuffy and runny nose. I love the way the fresh scent smells and it is easy on her sensitive nose. I know these will come in handy this winter with all these colds going around!  Note: I tear these wipes in half to make the pack last longer! The wipes are so big anyways, half a wipe is more than enough for a little one’s nose!

Baby Oatmeal – I can’t believe Ada is already eating solids! Just… wow! She has just started on Oatmeal and seems to like it pretty good. I do mix in some fruit into the oatmeal, otherwise it is pretty tasteless! Haha! So far, Ada enjoys banana! I’ll be introducing sweet potatoes soon!

Tummy Time Pillow – As I have mentioned before, Ada really hates tummy time. She screams at the top of her lungs, turns beet red and has tears running down her cheeks. It seriously the worst thing ever! For Christmas, she received this pillow and she actually likes it! She lays on it and plays with the crunchy toys. Maybe because she is a little bit older, but we can now do tummy time thanks to this pillow!

Sophie the Giraffe – I know that this toy is everywhere and on everyone’s registry. I don’t know what it is that babies like about this toy, but Ada really loves her Sophie. She loves chewing on this toy and laughs every time I squeak it! Plus, it is adorable!

Pink Poodle – This is Ada’s absolutely most favorite toy! She just squeals in delight, laughs and kicks and wiggles about every time we get it out to play. I guess she finds the rattling and jittering hilarious! Whenever she is upset, this is the toy that I bring out to make her happy again!

Peace of Mind

The one thing no one really warns you about becoming a new parent, is the worry you immediately have. People gave me all kinds of advice while I was pregnant, but I don’t remember anyone warning me about the worry. I have been worrying about everything, when it comes to Ada, since the moment she came into this world. I worry about her being too cold or too hot, I worry about her progressing at the rate she should, I worry about her getting enough sleep or getting too much sleep, I worry about my milk being enough for her or that she is getting what she needs from me. I mean, the list just keeps going. But every night, when we put her down in her crib, that was when the real worry would begin.

I worried so much that she would stop breathing… every parents’ nightmare. I would wake up about every 3o minutes to an hour and go check on her. I would hardly sleep when I was in bed, I mostly just stared at the baby monitor all night. I was so relieved when morning came, it meant the night time part of worrying was over. As you know, this isn’t healthy for anyone. I was exhausted and so was Randy. My constantly getting up all the time and watching the baby monitor in full brightness and volume was keeping Randy up as well. Something needed to change.

That was when I came across the Owlet. The Owlet is a relatively new product that uses different technology from all the other breathing monitors on the market. It uses pulse oximetry, which is the same pulse reader as the ones used in hospitals. After showing Randy, he jumped on getting it right away. He was desperate for a good nights sleep too!

It is just a little sock that fits onto her foot and she doesn’t even notice it. It stays on well, especially since at night she sleeps in footie sleepers. It comes with three different size socks so she can wear it as she grows. Right now, she is in the smallest size because she has tiny little feet! So sweet!

The sock connects to a base via bluetooth and that base connects over wi-fi to the Owlet app on your phone. It is such a comfort to me knowing that something is monitoring her breathing and heart rate and will alert me if something is amiss. Not only will the base alert you, but your phone will too. This sock as been a lifesaver for us. It has helped me to rest a little bit easier at night now and Randy is finally getting sleep too.

This sock should be on everyone’s baby registry. I know you can’t depend on technology completely to keep your baby safe, but anything to help me out just a little bit is such a blessing. I can now enjoy bedtime with Ada, instead of dreading it. Here is to peaceful nights! 😉

August Love List

Fall is right around the corner and I couldn’t be happier! But it is not quite here yet. 🙁 Until then, here is a list of transitional items I love!

1. This perfume from Caudalie smells amazing. My good friend discovered it while she was visiting Paris and I am so glad she shared it with me. It is the perfect balance of sweet and musk. And it helps that Randy absolutely loves it too! 🙂

2. This Crock Pot Beef and Sweet Corn Queso Dip looks delicious! Everything I have made from Iowa Girl Eats has been out of this world good. (If you don’t follow her, I suggest that you do!) I can’t wait to give this one a try this weekend!

3. I bought this gray sweater from Loft and it is the perfect transitional sweater. It is warm enough for those chilly mornings and light enough to keep me comfortable in the afternoons. Plus, the eyelet detail on the sleeve is adorable!

4. As you all know, I have an obsession with Hello Apparel. I just love their stuff! I saw this on their Instagram and I am super excited! It isn’t available until September, but I will be the first in line to buy this one when it becomes available. It will be great for football season, even though I am not a football fan… or any sport for that matter. I feel like Brian Regan when it comes to sports, “Go my favorite sports team! Make a goal, unit, basket!” Anyways, I digress…

5. And last but not least, this utility jacket from Sierra Designs. I bought this jacket in gray (of course, my favorite color!) from the online REI outlet store . I have wanted a utility jacket for a while now, but they mostly come in olive. I love the color olive, it just doesn’t love me. So when I saw this jacket in gray, I just had to have it! 😉 It is a great weight for this transitional weather and water resistant (a plus in my book, since we live in a rain forest!). It is going to be my new go-to jacket for travel. It will be getting it’s first test at the end of the month (more info on that later!).

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and that you are having a good start to your week. Just 3 more days till the weekend!

July Love List

Hello everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful summer! Ours has been so busy! Good, but busy! We are both working full time, I am taking a class for work, organizing and participating in our small group from church, volunteering with our youth at church, Randy volunteers with United Way, I volunteer with our local humane society, all the while balancing our social and family life. Needless to say, we are spread pretty thin. But please note, I am not complaining in any way. We love all that we do. Except maybe that class for work! 😉

Moving onto the Love List of the Month!

July Love List

1. If you follow my Instagram feed (@jamamaples), then you have seen how many pictures I have posted of this blue necklace! It has become one of my favorite accessories! It matches just about all of my summer outfits. The colors are vibrant and there is just enough sparkle to be fun. 🙂

2. This happy camper koozie just makes me smile! I love the saying, “happy camper,” don’t’ know why, just do. I guess because I am one happy camper, except the days back in girl scouts. Stacy, you know what I am talking about! Camping as a child was miserable… rained every time! But camping has improved since then and I now love it!

3. I received this “Go Camping” tshirt from ModCloth last month and have been wearing it like crazy. Its super soft, comfortable and cute! What more can you ask for in a shirt? 😉

4. I was hesitant to try out this lipstick because it has an orange base. But I am so glad that I tried it. It is the perfect shade of red for summer. It is bright and cheery and works well with my skin tone (surprisingly)! Reading reviews it is great for pretty much all skin tones! If you want to see what it looks like on me, go check out my July 4th post! 😉

5. This devotional has been fantastic! “Wife After God” has been the most convicting and encouraging devotional I have ever read. Every day has been an inspiration for me to be the best wife I can be; it has helped me in so many ways. This devotional was written by a blogger, Jennifer Smith from Unveiled Wife. This blog is great! Everyday she sends out prayers and encouraging messages. She writes about real issues that everyday wives face. I encourage every wife to read it, you will not regret it!
