Our Holidays in Photos

Our holiday season was sweet and simple, filled with family, friends, and good eats! 😉 We enjoyed spending Christmas with our families and had special visits from old friends for New Years. Ada loved every minute of it and I am so sad to see Christmas end. Ada is already missing her Christmas lights in her room and the choo, choo train around the tree. I am going to have to think of something fun and festive for Valentine’s Day just so Ada (& I) can enjoy another celebration. 🙂

One of my favorite activities that we did this Christmas, was taking Ada to see Christmas Lights in Asheville. It is a spectacular light show that you drive through and all the lights are schronized to Christmas music on a dedicated radio channel. Ada loved it! She just talked and pointed at everything as we drove by. It was simply the best!

Ada and I spend two days making Christmas cookies for our family and neighbors. She had a blast getting covered in flour and eating cookie dough behind my back.

Afterwards, we all enjoyed some milk and cookies by the Christmas tree.

Freshly made Christmas cookies, ready to be delivered.

For New Year’s, we stayed at home and enjoyed playing with Ada and her new toys. Her favorite – the elephant ball popper! But we also enjoyed some cake, sparklers, and champagne (for mom and dad)!

I made us some mini party hats and was delightfully surprised when Ada loved having it on.

I adore this picture! Just look at that adorable, cheesy smile! 🙂

Clapping in the new year! Ada’s favorite word right now is, “Happy”; because of us saying, “Happy New Year!” So now she is running around the house saying, “Happy, happy, happy!” Yeah – it is pretty darn cute.

I hope your holiday season was filled with love, family, friends, and happiness! And may God’s peace and joy continue to bless you all through out the new year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ya’ll!

Joy

Hello 2016! It’s sometimes hard to believe that another year has come and gone. I swear time speeds up when you have a kid! This past year has been one of the best years of my life – Ada is the greatest thing to ever happen! And I really look forward to what this new year will bring to our little family!

IMG_5512

Every year, for my new year’s resolution, I like to pick one word to focus on for the year. This year my word is JOY.

IMG_5511

Often times I feel like I lose focus on the things that truly matter. In this world, we see everyone around us striving for perfection – having the perfect body, the perfect look, the perfect job, the perfect house, the perfect family, etc, etc. Social media is a wonderful way to watch everyone around you live out these perfect lives. I feel that sometimes I do nothing but compare. Especially now that I am a mother.

Being a mother is fantastic, but it is also the most stressful thing I have ever taken on. I am constantly worrying about Ada. I am reading books, articles, and blogs on how to do this whole motherhood thing because I really don’t want to mess this up. And I sometimes can’t help but compare my way of parenting to others.

_D700489

“Comparison is a thief of joy.” Isn’t this quote so true? I get so caught up comparing my way of life to others that I become so unhappy; I spend more time worrying than living. In reality, my life is perfect, just the way it is. I love my life and my family. I don’t have everything, I make mistakes, I don’t travel as often as I like, I definitely don’t have the perfect body or the perfect marriage. But what I have is so much better – I have something real.

IMG_5513

It is time for me to stop comparing and enjoy my life. To be happy with who I am and what God has blessed me with. I also want to be a good example for my daughter. I don’t want Ada to see me obsessing about my weight or looks or constantly worrying about how everyone perceives me. I want Ada to learn to be happy with herself and to find her true happiness, regardless what others say or do.

So here’s to a new year filled with JOY. 🙂 Happy New Years!

Saying Goodbye to 2014

For the past year, I have kept a memory jar of our 2014 year. A new tradition I would love to keep for years to come. Basically, every time we received good news or did something fun or wanted to remember a good day, I would write it down on a piece of paper and place it in the jar.

On New Year’s Eve, we sat by the fire and read all the notes.

It was so much fun to sit and reminisce about all our experiences in 2014. And to think about the ones who helped us make these memories as well.

Some highlights of our year:

  • Celebrated our 28th birthdays
  • Cruise to the Bahamas
  • Summer Concert
  • San Francisco
  • 10 Year High School Reunion
  • Wags to Riches Gala
  • Wine and Dine Party
  • Sharing life with our small group
  • Family dinners and get-togethers

And many more great memories! This really helped us slow down and think about each memory. It was wonderful to see how God has truly blessed us – with joy, health, friends and family.

The word I picked for 2014 was change. I believe we have done just that. We have explored new places, experienced new things and have made wonderful new friends. We have changed and grown so much this year. We have learned to view the world and our lives in new ways. We have leaned on each other more, appreciated each other more and supported each other more this year; helping us to become even closer together and with God.

I look forward to see what God has in store for us in 2015! Happy New Year!

Speaking of Change

website_under_construction1

I have had some technical difficulties with my blog, which I am sure you have noticed. I am working on correcting these issues, which I hope doesn’t change my web address. If it does, I will let you know.

I will not be posting new posts for a little while. 🙁

But don’t go far! I will be back before you know it!

Thank you for your support and I look forward to sharing, with you, the new and improved blog!

Change for 2014

It has taken me a few days to figure out what my one word for 2014 should be. I also had a difficult time figuring out what I wanted out of 2014. I have plans for 2014, you know, the usual ones… get in better shape, eat healthier, organize my house, and my life, etc, etc. But those are boring and I wanted to do something more. As I was thinking and searching for a new year resolution, I kept coming across a quote. It just kept popping up, where ever I looked. It is from this quote that I was able to figure out what my word for 2014 would be.

“For what it’s worth… it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people who have a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of, and if you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Change.

I believe it is time for things in my life to change. Even though 2013 had been a wonderful year, it had also been a year of hurts. It is time to let those hurts go and move on with my life. Time to meet new people and make new friends. In order to do that, it is time for me to let go of self-doubts and my timidness (something I have been working on my whole life!). I am ready to meet new people who challenge me, who support me and who encourage me.

I also believe it is time for me to get out of my rut and go out and discover. Even just small things, like trying out a new restaurant instead of going to the same one over and over again. Or trying out a new outfit, or a new recipe, or hiking somewhere new. Just get out of the norm of my everyday life. I want to make everyday an adventure… small adventures, but something new and exciting.

I don’t know how realistic my resolution is this year, but it is something that I want to strive for everyday.

It is my wish for everyone to discover, progress, and enjoy your life everyday of 2014 and every year after.

2013 Moments

It is hard to believe that 2013 is over. It is amazing how fast the years go by as you get older. I guess as you get older the more you appreciate your time.

2013 has been a wonderful year for Randy and me. Filled with some of the greatest memories of our lives (so far)! Let’s take a look…

1. We finally found a home church at the beginning of 2013. After a year of searching, we finally found where we belong. It has been a tremendous blessing and I thank God everyday for my church family/lifegroup.

2. We ran a 5k together on the airport runway! We also had a chance encounter with colleges from work! Go Eaton! 😉

3. We bought a new washer and dryer. Our old ones went out on us while washing clothes… that was fun!

4. We went to a gala for the Blue Ridge Humane Society!

5. Randy and I both started new jobs within Eaton!

6. Randy traveled all over the country on business. He went to NYC, Chicago, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Orlando – the list goes on. He got to see Third Eye Blind and Imagine Dragons on these visits…. lucky! 😉

7. We refinanced our house this year! The house will be paid for in 15 years! That’s not so bad, right? Only 5,358 days to go! 🙂

8. We both celebrated our 10,000th day being alive! Celebrate the small things, right?

9. We planned and went on our dream vacation to Italy! We got to experience a beautiful culture and meet the most wonderful people!

10. In Italy, we celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary! These four years have been amazing! I wouldn’t change a thing! I hope to have 100 more anniversaries with you Randy!

The Lord has certainly blessed us this year! We have been blessed with good health, great friends and we have the best family!

With all the wonderful things that have happened this year, all the crazy planning, all the travel, all the fun…. I feel a little worn out!

I haven’t really thought about a New Year’s Resolution or what adventures 2014 will hold. Right now, on the last day of 2013, I just want to sit back and enjoy the day. I don’t want to plan anything or wish away the time. Just want to relax with my loving husband, our fur-babies, a glass of wine in hand and reminisce about our amazing year together.

The planning and resolutions can wait till tomorrow…
